X Factor star dies aged just 34 as manager pays tribute to ‘beautiful’ singer

The X Factor star Danny Dearden has sadly died aged just 34.

He competed on the show back in 2014 and was mentored by Spice Girl Mel B. He reached the Judges Houses before leaving the show, but became successful after his series stint, which saw him compete against Jack Quickenden, Andrea Faustini, Jack Walton and Paul Akister.

Danny’s manager Denise Beighton has released a statement following his death. The gut-wrenching message read: “Heartbroken to wake up to the news that you’re gone. I have no words right now, rest easy beautiful boy.”

The singer’s cause of death has not been confirmed. In December 2023 Danny took to Instagram to thank the NHS after a medical incident: “This year has been a bit of a rocky one, at one point I was told I probably wouldn’t be here today…well I am.”

In 2024, Dearden also said that he had “not been in the best of health recently”.

Back in 2021, Danny signed a deal with Sentric Music and had over 15 million Spotify streams. One of his most successful songs, a collaboration with French music producer Michael Calfan titled Could Be With You, reached over 14 million.

One of his most iconic X Factor performances was his cover of Beautiful Disaster by Kelly Clarkson.

After travelling to Mexico, Dearden sang in front of Mel and her former Spice Girl co-star Emma Bunton, also known as Baby Spice.

His song was played on BBC Radio 1 and was also featured on the ITV reality dating show Love Island. In his personal life, Dearden campaigned for anti-bullying and visited schools around the country to teach online safety.

Back in 2018, Danny discussed working with Michael Calfan on his single Could Be With You: “It was amazing working with him.”

“At the time of the first session, when we wrote It’s Wrong, I hadn’t had a lot of experience in a studio of that scale so it was quite nerve-racking, but everyone made me feel at ease.”

“He is one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met, although it can be difficult at times because he has the strongest French accent I’ve ever heard, that mixed with my Northern/Lancashire/Manc accent we had to repeat ourselves a few times.”

Dearden also spoke about the song’s success and admitted he found the amount of streams “mental”.

At the time he said: “We are nearly at three-quarters of a million and we haven’t even started the promotion we have planned yet. Seeing people like Martin Garrix and Martin Solveig add it to their personal playlist is crazy.”
