Zoe Ball returning to BBC Radio 2 with new show just weeks after exit

Zoe Ball will be returning to BBC Radio 2.

The broadcaster has announced that the beloved radio legend will be returning to the station with a new weekly show. It was recently announced that Ball had decided to leave her breakfast show, with Scott Mills taking over her role.

Zoe will be hosting a new weekly show, starting in May, and two specials including a BBC TV show celebrating Elaine Paige’s 60-year career in showbiz. Head of BBC Radio 2 Helen Thomas spoke out about Zoe’s unexpected return to the airwaves.

She said: “Zoe is one of the UK’s most-loved presenters so I’m thrilled to announce that she has a new home on Radio 2 on Saturday lunchtimes, plus she’ll be hosting various specials for us throughout the year.”

Back in November 2024 it was announced that Zoe would be taking a step back from her radio show after an absence. Ball’s fans were concerned for the star after she vanished from her show for more than six weeks, returning in late September.

In an announcement at the time, Zoe put the record straight and revealed the plans to her loyal listeners. She explained: “Ok you lovely bunch, I have some news. After six years of fun times alongside you all on the Breakfast Show, I’ve decided it’s time to step away from the early alarm call and start a new chapter.”

“You know I think the world of you all listeners, and it truly has been such a privilege to share the mornings with you, to go through life’s little ups and downs, we got through the lockdown together, didn’t we? We’ve shared a hell of a lot, the good times, the tough times, there’s been a lot of laughter.”

“I am going to miss you cats. I’m going to miss my amazing Prod Squad who I adore. Already missing Mike, I’m going to miss Tina and Richie. They’ve all become like family to me, like you lot, but I won’t miss the 4am alarm call if I’m completely honest.”
