Good Morning Britain presenters issued an urgent update on Prince Andrew after it was reported his gun licence was revoked following a police visit to Royal Lodge
Good Morning Britain was abruptly interrupted as the show provided another update on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Hosts Ed Balls and Charlotte Hawkins informed ITV viewers that the 65-year-old has reportedly had his firearms licence revoked.
This development follows King Charles stripping his younger brother of his Royal and military titles due to his controversial ties with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Charlotte stated: “Andrew is said to have agreed to give up the certificate after specialist police visited his Royal Lodge home in Windsor.”
Richard Gaisford, providing more insight into the news, told the hosts that Andrew is an avid huntsman who enjoys shooting parties and owns several firearms and shotguns for this purpose.
He said: “According to today’s Sun newspaper, he can only use those weapons under strict supervision.
“In general terms, police have a duty to make regular checks on those with guns to maintain their licences and those certificates can be revoked if they have concerns about the way weapons are being stored, criminal behaviour or someone’s mental health.
“That visit by the police came a month after the King revoked his royal titles.
“A few weeks after that, he was also told he would have to move out of Royal Lodge where he has been paying peppercorn rent and living with his former wife Sarah Ferguson.”
In a statement released in the early hours, the Met Police confirmed: “On Wednesday November 19, firearms licensing officers attended an address in Windsor to request that a man in his 60s voluntarily surrender his firearms and shotgun certificate.
“The certificate was surrendered, and we will not be commenting any further at this stage.”
