David Walliams says his 'bag of spanners' face blocked him from romantic roles

David Walliams reckons he is too ugly to land on-screen sex scenes.

The Little Britain comic moaned his face is like a “bag of spanners” so it’s ruled him out of playing romantic leads in films and on TV.

Despite dating a string of models in reality, David, 49, whined he plays yet another ugly character in his upcoming Christmas TV show, Jack And The Beanstalk.

He said: “We don’t have any love scenes in this so I don’t know how that would work.

“I’m not the kind of person who ever gets to do love scenes because I’ve got a face like a bag of spanners.”

But David admitted getting intimate in his latest project would have been difficult as the cast constantly had to get tested for the coronavirus.

The actor – who plays a giant in the Jack And the Beanstalk festive special – added: “There is constant testing going on throughout the shoot. All the crew are wearing face masks. We’re being as careful as possible.”

David’s only on-screen intimacy has been gay scenes when he played his comedy hero Frankie Howerd.

But his co-star Rafe Spall said he hated playing David’s lover and manager Dennis Heymer in the 2008 drama Rather You Than Me.

Rafe, 37, said: “I didn’t enjoy doing those scenes with David. Sex scenes with girls are embarrassing enough but doing them with blokes, you have to dig deep and think of England!

“There aren’t any full frontals, thank goodness, but there is some nudity.”

David split from Dutch model Lara Stone in 2015 after five years of marriage and has dated models including Lisa Snowdon, Abi Titmus, Playboy pin-up Emily Agnes and Miss Norway contender Sylvia Flote – as well as Geri Halliwell and actress Kate Beckinsale.

But his camp persona on TV appearances including as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent has led to him being constantly questioned about his sexuality.

David said: “If I was gay, I would just get on with it. But definitely I love women, I love being around women, I find them incredible and intoxicating, and I’ve never had that feeling I get with women with a man.”

David will be starring in the festive special of Britain’s Got Talent along with fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Ashley Banjo.

It airs on Christmas Day at 7pm on ITV.
