Where are The Full Monty stars now – Corrie axe, Golden Globe and drink-driving

The Full Monty is one of the most of iconic British films of all time.

The 1997 film tells the story of a group of steel workers who are forced out of a job after their mill shuts down.

In a bid to make ends meet, the unlikely men decide to turn to stripping to bring in cash.

The Full Monty ended up being up universal critical acclaim and bagged four Academy Award nominations, including one win for Best Music.

The film also won three BAFTAs during the 1998 ceremony.

Here we check out where the cast of the film are now and what they have done since.

Robert Carlyle – Gaz

Robert played the role of Gaz, the film’s lead character who appeared in the raunchy final stage performance of the film.

Since the film he has enjoyed a successful career, starring in Once Upon a Time and Human Trafficking.

His roles have certainly not been in short supply, as his most recent stint is in Sky’s political drama Cobra.

He plays the role of British PM Robert Sutherland and the second series is currently currently filming in central London.

Robert has been married to wife Anastasia Shirley since 1997 and they share a daughter and two sons together.

Paul Barber – Horse

Paul’s most famous work was in Only Fools and Horses where he played the character of Denzil.

He’s also enjoyed small TV roles in BBC medical soap Casualty, and in 2019 he appeared in festive family film A Very British Christmas.

Most recently last year he appeared in The Small Hand, playing a minor role in the horror.

Despite his showbiz success, Paul had a tragic start to life, as his dad died in Sierra Leone and his mother passed away after falling ill with tuberculosis.

Paul was then sent into foster care, where he has spoken of the abuse he faced from the carers, before eventually leaving the care system.

The actor has admitted that he almost fell into a life of crime after breaking into a shop in Liverpool to steal jewellery.

He was put on remand for two weeks, and decided to get his life back on track, sparking his decision to become an actor.

Paul has admitted that his traumatic childhood has had a huge effect on his life, but he is single and happy, running his own company in a seafront home in Clacton, Essex.

He told Liverpool Echo: “It might be because of all that, yeah.

“I’m not a dad, I’m not married – I have left that to my brothers and sisters. I’ve got loads of nephews and nieces. I am the only one who has never grown up. I am not saying I can’t have relationships – of course I can –but they just don’t last long.”

Mark Addy – Dave

Mark Addy is a regular in British TV dramas

Mark Addy is arguably one of the most recognisable faces to come out of The Full Monty.

The actor is a regular own the small screen with role in countless TV dramas, including as Robert Baratheon on hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

He played the role of the neighbour of Sergei Kripal and Ross Cassidy in the three part series Salisbury Poisonings.

The BBC drama was based on the real life events of now infamous Russian poisoning which took place during Theresa May’s premiership.

Addy also recently played the role of DS Stan Jones in ITV’s White House Farm as well as in drama Urban Myths and Moving On.

Tom Wilkinson – Gerald

Since his role in The Full Monty Tom went on to appear in a string of films including in SAS: Red Notice alongside Lord of The Rings actor Andy Serkis.

He appeared in ITV’s 2020 drama Belgravia as the Earl of Brockenhurst.

In 2009, he won Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Film for playing Benjamin Franklin in John Adams.

He was also appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for “services to Drama” back in 2005.

He married actress Diana Hardcastle and they share two daughters, Alice and Molly, together.

Steve Huison – Lomper

Unlike some of his Full Monty co-stars, Steve opted for smaller roles after big screen appearance.

Following as sting of small short films in 2019 he appeared as Tuff in drama The Runaways.

He also went on to star as Eddie Windass in Coronation Street, walking onto the cobbles in 2008 before his exit in 2011, when bosses decided to write him out.

Steve said about his exit on social media: “To be honest, I’ll be glad to get on with things. It’s all unreal there anyway. No challenge. I’ll miss the money and a few good friends.

“Do you know what I’m really looking forward to more than anything else? A right bloody good haircut!”

Hugo Speer – Guy

Hugo has enjoyed a successful TV career since his role as Guy in The Full Monty.

Last year he was seen in ITV’s Marcella which recently reran on due to the ongoing lockdown.

He also played the role of Inspector Valentine in BBC’s Father Brown from 2013 to 2020, and in 2017 he bagged the role of Lucius in Amazon Prime’s Britannia.

Speer was involved in a car accident which saw his BMW crash into a traffic island after attending a friend’s wake.

He was found slumped over the airbag by a passer by, who failed to rouse him and called emergency services.

Speer told police he had been to a funeral and was over the limit because a waiter kept topping up his drink.

There were no injuries and he was banned from driving for 18 months after admitting to drink-driving, and was fined £350 and told to pay £60 costs by Harrogate JPs.
