BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood and Sally Nugent threaten to 'quit' show live on-air

BBC Breakfast’sCarol Kirkwood and Sally Nugent have vowed to quit the show together – leaving co-presenter Charlie Stayt holding his own on the red sofa.

Presenter Sally and weather-girl Carol were colluding with one another on Wednesday morning, leaving poor Charlie worried that he would have to carry the show by himself.

It all began during a news segment on the recent Euromillions jackpot, which stands at £184million – and will rollover to Friday evening after nobody won Tuesday night’s draw.

Charlie kicked off the segment by saying: “Now, if you entered last night’s record Euromillions draw, here is the bad news – you didn’t win it.

“Here’s the good news – nobody else did.”

Sally chipped in: “And that means, are you all listening, the record jackpot of £184million will be available again on Friday! We’re getting bigger – it’s now reached its maximum level of £184million.”

As weather presenter Carol appeared on screen, Sally told her: “And that means, Carol, that our plans could still happen!”

On Tuesday’s show, Sally and Carol announced they were heading off to Las Vegas together – but poor Dan Walker wasn’t invited.

She explained to Charlie: “If one of us wins we’re going to Vegas. Possibly by Saturday!”

Charlie responded: “I was thinking it was going to be something a little bit bigger than that, than a trip to Vegas, for £184million!”

He added: “Also… would you both walk? I mean, if you found out right now, would you just go, would it just be me?”

Confused, Sally asked: “Walk to Vegas?!”

Charlie clarified: “It would just be me left here, right?”

“Yeah, probably. Fair enough, yeah,” Sally cheekily agreed, as Charlie asked: “It would, wouldn’t it?”

And Carol chipped in: “You know, if we had a syndicate, we could all just go! There’d be nobody here tomorrow morning!”

She added: “You’ve got to do it, haven’t you, to be in with a chance!”

It comes just a day after Sally brutally shut down Dan Walker in their own tense Euromillions row, as she and Carol discussed their Vegas plans.

As Carol quipped Sally should “remember her friends” if she won, Sally remarked: “Always! Straight to Vegas!”

Through his laughter, Dan asked: “What, you and Carol in Vegas? Can I come along and film it?”

“No,” Sally quickly snapped – putting his dreams of a Las Vegas getaway securely on ice.

“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!” Carol interjected as she tried to move the conversation swiftly on. “That’s our rule, isn’t it Sal?”

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
