The One Show's Alex Jones mocks John Bishop over 'inventive' name of his programme

Alex Jones couldn’t resist poking fun of comedian John Bishop as he joined her and Jermaine Jenas via video link to promote his new programme on The One Show.

The 55-year-old comedian had been chatting about his up and coming tour – which had to be halted after the fire brigade were called in after “someone had been smoking in the toilet”.

After he’d discussed what fans could expect from his comedy material, Alex, 44, turned the conversation to the former footballer’s new ITV chat show.

She said: “Bringing back your role as talk show host because you’ve got this brand new show on ITV,” before mocking: “Inventive name it’s got… The John Bishop Show.”

John laughed off Alex’s comment about his show

The Welsh host’s co-star Jermaine could barely hold his giggles as he fell about laughing.

Fortunately for Alex, John also saw the funny side as he agreed: “Yeah.”

Jermaine went on to quiz the star about the late preparations he made for his show – knowing that it was filmed at the last minute to ensure content was current.

Alex couldn’t resist poking fun of John

John responded: “This is as close as I will get to doing stand-up comedy as I don’t really get that much time to prepare.

“It’s like you two doing live TV.”

Agreeing, Alex added: “It’s the jeopardy with live TV and you’ve got to have a backup plan if people don’t show up.

“You’ve got a family member in mind haven’t you John?” asked Alex.

John recently landed his own show with ITV

Laughing, John joked: “I said to someone that I’d probably phone me mum if someone didn’t show up.”

The actor turned presenter recently expressed his delight after he’d landed a prim time slot for his own show with ITV.

Speaking about the new gig at the time, John told the Mirror: “We’ve been discussing making a Saturday night show for ITV for a while and I am so glad that we are finally going to be doing it.

“We want it to be up to date and topical, whilst also fitting the energy and fun that Saturday nights on ITV is known for.”

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One
