GMB's Ranvir Singh clashes with Eddie the Eagle in heated row over Winter Olympics funds

TV presenter Ranvir Singh and Eddie the Eagle massively clashed when it came to talks about Winter Olympics funds on Monday’s (February 14) episode of Good Morning Britain.

The TV host, 44, held a quite a strong opinion on the matter and argued that “tax payers money” could be better spent after Great Britain had so far failed to achieve any medals.

Eddie the Eagle, whose real name is David Edwards, hit back as he explained that he had been the underdog during his competition days and if funds were tightened, he might not have had a shot to take part.

The pair clearly didn’t see eye-to-eye on the matter as talk turned to shouting over one another.

It appeared that ITV fans were also divided over the row, with many agreeing with both parties.

One tweet read: “Agree with Eddie 100%. Watched the film about his life which was so inspiring. Thought sport was also about taking part, encouraging people to take up a sport and not all about medals. Can’t believe how rude Richard was to Eddie.”

Another online user fumed: “A complete an utter waste of money – it seems that we are just making up the numbers and not even competitive. Money could be spent elsewhere with better uses – We all know where!”

A third person asked others: “Interesting debate on @GMB about cutting funding for Winter Olympic Athletes due to a lack of success and not fitting into the British traditional sport bracket. Surely we should be signposting all sports and not closing doors? Or do we pump more money into summer olympics?”

“What a ridiculous and insulting take on the situation. Should every country that doesn’t win national sporting competitions stop trying or entering? Terrible piece of journalism,” raged a fourth.

While a fifth person added: “Quite right Eddie.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
