Coronation Street's Mikey North vows Gary's world 'comes crashing down' as body found

The future isn’t looking so bright for Coronation Street’s Gary Windass as actor Mikey North promised his world “comes crashing down”.

The bad boy of the ITV cobbles has managed to keep murdering loan shark Rick Neelan on the down-low for the most part – only confiding in his wife Maria Connor and sharing parts of the story with ex Sarah Platt.

But now the truth is set to come rushing back as Rick’s body is discovered.

Next week, Maria informs Gary that she’s succeeded in moving Weatherfield County’s new training ground on the basis of her environmental campaign – but the bad news for Gary is that the new ground is on top of where he buried Rick.

Desperate, he attempts to break into the site to shift the corpse once again, but his plan is foiled by a security guard.

And with Laura’s private investigator getting closer to the truth, he blurts out what he has done to Rick’s ex.

But what will Gary’s future hold now? And could he be headed back behind bars?

Actor Mikey North dished on how Gary’s world as he knows it is coming to an end, telling Daily Star: “[The storyline] was nicely done, because Laura asks Gary to be Kelly’s legal guardian and he goes for a drink with Maria.

“They say, ‘Throughout all of this hardship this was meant to be, we’re finally coming out the other side of it, and maybe we can make a new life here and start again, try to stop thinking about what Gary’s done.'”

Could Gary return to prison?

The actor elaborated: “He’s become so used to it, and while he can be quite cunning, I think he has just gotten used to living with it – especially in the last year or so.

“Life has somewhat returned a bit more to normal and it’s been nice to have some lighter scenes and to play a bit of the lighter stuff with Tim and Sally, so it’s almost been forgotten about.

“But of course it’s always going to come out at some point and it had to come to the surface, and that’s now. “

And come out it does, as Maria tells Gary the new training ground is located at the old brickworks, exactly where he’s buried Rick’s body.

Mikey added: “So Gary is absolutely horrified, and that may very well be the end. There’s not much he can do then.

“This is where his world comes crashing down, essentially. He’s always thought he could manage a way to get around it, but that body is the one thing which could signal trouble – and this is the worst case scenario for him.”

But for Mikey, the truth coming out was more a relief than anything.

He explained: “When I heard it was gonna come out I felt a bit relieved, because I kept getting asked, ‘When’s it all going to come out?’

“So I can sympathise with Gary a little bit. It’s nice he gets to tell someone!”

But what will the truth mean for Gary’s relationship with Kelly, and his freedom? Viewers will have to tune in to find out.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
