Dancing On Ice's Joey Essex 'lucky to still have finger' after gory rink accident

Dancing On Ice contestant Joey Essex has said he is “lucky to still have his finger” after a gory accident on the ITV rink.

The former TOWIE star has become the first of the new batch of Dancing On Ice celebrities to sustain an injury, not long after being announced for the show.

The Essex hunk, 32, shared a few pictures of his bandaged-up hand on Instagram alongside the caption: “Respect the ice, otherwise the ice will not respect you… Day two.”

He also explained further on his Instagram Stories, telling his 1.8million followers: “I’ve ended up with a metal finger, I’m lucky to still have the finger to be honest.

“You live and learn. If you are ever going to be a dancer on the ice, don’t take risks straight away. Go slow. It’s all about patience.”

Joey was announced for Dancing On Ice after his identity was teased on This Morning just last week.

He has joined a host of other popular names, including Love Island winner and fan-favourite Ekin-Su Culculoglu, Coronation Street actress Mollie Gallagher, ex-EastEnders star Patsy Palmer, RuPaul’s Drag Race queen The Vivienne and The Wanted singer Siva Kaneswaran.

Dancing On Ice is the next in a long list of television shows Joey has appeared on after first finding fame on ITV reality series The Only Way Is Essex in 2011.

He appeared on Splash! in 2013 before heading to Australia for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, on which he came out in fourth place.

The television favourite then tried his hand at snow sports in 2015, when he won now-axed Channel 4 series The Jump.

He’s had a number of stints on Celebs Go Dating between 2016 and 2021, and tried to find love again on Celebrity Ex on the Beach in 2020.

Joey also took on a more serious job when he joined the cast of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2020.

He returned to I’m A Celeb earlier this year, albeit the Australian version, and joined a host of MTV stars – such as Chloe Ferry, Bethan Kershaw, Angelina Pivarnick and James Tindale – on All Star Shore.
