Strictly's Hamza calls 'time out' as he's forced to defend himself over Jowita's injury

BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Hamza Yassin called a “time out” after working hard in rehearsals with his partner Jowita Pryzstal ahead of this weekend’s show.

As the duo prepare to perform an Argentine tango to Libertango by Bond, Hamza spoke to fans as he and Jowita did the rounds on a number of TV shows during the day.

Speaking to fans on Instagram, Jowita said: “We had such a lovely day today. We started with Loose Women.

“So lovely. We had a really nice chat and time there. Then we came here to Oti Mabuse’s studio! And we’re doing some rehearsals.”

Hamza could be heard agreeing that it was going well as Jowita then added: “But I need to show you something…”

As he asked her to show him what it was, the camera panned down to Jowita’s left leg, which featured a huge and defined bruise.

Hamza shouted: “Woah, woah… Time out!” as he rushed to cover up the large mark.

He added to the camera: “Listen, this is not me! That bruise was not me. That happened accidentally when we are doing, what are they called? Gamchos.

“It’s the whole little leg flicky kicky thing. I promise I’m not beating her up I promise!”

Jowita then made it clear she was joking as she told fans: “The sacrifices for this dance.”

Hamza and Jowita have been the show’s highest-scoring couple of the series so far after coming third in the Strictly Blackpool special.

As the final of the hit BBC series approaches, Hamza paid tribute to his partner on social media as he wrote: “To my leading lady @jowitaprzystal…

“It was my absolute pleasure to grace the floor of the famous Blackpool Tower with you. I know how much this particular ballroom means to you as a dancer. It was a great honour to open the show with you, dancing one of my favourite dances (American smooth foxtrot) to the beautiful song, New York, New York by Frank Sinatra.”

He added: “Never in a million years did I think I would be on this journey. I want to thank you for your kindness, your patience and your understanding. I shall forever cherish the memory of sharing this stage with you. You are the best!”
