Love Island's Maya Jama in legal demand as 'ex-fiancé asks for £800k ring back'

Love Island star Maya Jama has reportedly been hit with a legal letter asking her to return a £800,000 diamond engagement ring to ex-fiancé Ben Simmons.

The host of the ITV2 reality dating series got engaged to National Basketball Association (NBA) star Ben Simmons in December 2021, following a whirlwind romance.

However, the couple split one year later in 2022, and The Sun has reported that NBA star Ben has now requested that the engagement ring is returned to him.

Maya is said to have received a legal letter from Ben requesting the return of the ring, with a source close to the star claiming: “Given Ben has never, until now, asked for the ring back, you can appreciate the letter came somewhat as a surprise to Maya.”

They also added that the Love Island host intends on giving the ring back, with a spokesperson for Maya telling The Sun On Sunday: “Maya received a request from Ben’s representatives on Friday afternoon, asking her to return the engagement ring that he gave her as a gift last year.

“This was the first time that she has been asked by Ben to return it and, for the avoidance of any doubt, she has never refused to return it.

“Maya is making arrangements to return the ring to Ben and wishes him all the best.”

The Daily Star has approached Maya Jama’s representatives for comment.

Maya and Ben began dating in May 2021 and were snapped kissing one another at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in July of that year.

However, the couple were engaged less than one year before their split, with Maya confirming that she was single during an interview with The Times, saying: “I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month . . . but it’s nice.”

The TV host has since wowed fans on the new series of Winter Love Island, after taking over hosting duties from previous presenter Laura Whitmore.
