Amanda Holden pledges to get Daily Star's Elvis impersonator a slot on BGT

Amanda Holden has pledged to get the Daily Star’s hit Elvis impersonator a slot on Britain’s Got Talent.

Former bus controller Dave “Elvis” Black has already bagged a record deal since using his £10,000 redundancy cash to launch his new music career.

He will now take his hip-swivelling act to international music mogul Simon Cowell.

It follows a whirlwind rise to fame for the East End Elvis, who is shooting for global stardom and a Las Vegas residency.

He stunned Amanda, 51, with his “amazing” voice on her Heart FM show yesterday.

After hearing him croon Presley hit Burning Love, the talent judge asked if he wanted to be on BGT.

Dave, 52, replied: “Amanda, you’re pals with the main man, I’ll come on there if you want me to.”

Amanda said: “I feel like we should invite you.

“We’re doing it across the weekend – I’m going to get someone to give you a call.”

“Very kind of you honey,” Dave replied in his best Elvis drawl.

He will join the thousands of hopefuls who descended on the London Palladium this week to audition for the ITV show.

They will perform for Amanda and fellow judges Simon, 63, Alesha Dixon, 44, and Bruno Tonioli, 67.

But thanks to his growing reputation, Dave will get a rare chance to jump the queue.

After a fortnight of constant calls from TV firms, he told Amanda: “It’s been an absolutely amazing couple of weeks. It’s just exploded.”

The singer first entered the public eye in BBC documentary We Are England, released on January 9.

He has since performed live on ITV’s This Morning for hosts Phillip Schofield, 60, and Holly Willoughby, 41.

Dave admitted he’s received his fair share of online hate though too.

But he insisted: “I couldn’t care less. I’m like marmite – you either love it or you hate it. As long as enough people like what you’re doing, you’re going to get haters as well.”

His new single Suspicious Minds is out now on Impact Records, with the proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

David, of Colchester, said: “I’ve wanted to be a performer since the age of 10. I wanted the Dave Black show in the theatres. I never lost that passion for the stage.

“During Covid-19 I suffered with my mental health. Now I’m 100 per cent living my dream. I will carry on doing this for however long I’m on this planet.”
