Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia dress from Star Wars set to make millions at auction

Carrie Fisher’s iconic white dress, which she wore to play Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, is set to rack up a huge price tag at auction.

The actress’ outfit is set to be sold at auction along with other film and television memorabilia which are expected to make up to $12 million.

For 45 years the dress was in a plastic bag after having had food, drinks and blood spilled all over it from a costume party.

The stunning white ensemble has now been fully restored and is looking better than ever.

Prop collector Stephen Lane spoke to The Post about the outfit: “When I was first told about the dress, I simply couldn’t believe it. I’ve been collecting for 30 years and I think it’s one of the most exciting finds of my career.”

The white floor-length gown was kept by a member of the British crew who worked on the film as a keepsake, while many other costumes were simply tossed away.

About 10 years ago, Lane was tipped off about the Princess Leia costume and proceeded to hunt down the garment.

He said that “collectors had been searching for nearly 40 years” and many had “come to the conclusion that it didn’t exist anymore”.

Stephen went to meet the owner who had the dress “hanging on the back of a door” in a “ratty plastic bag” and admitted it was “in poor condition, grubby and torn”.

Along with the Star Wars outfit, props and costumes from Harry Potter and Batman are included in the sale.

The costume Daniel Radcliffe wore in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is up for auction along with the Batpod bike from The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Other notable pieces from Hollywood franchises will be included in the three day event named the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which has been organised by Propstore and will take place from 28 – 30 June.

Carrie’s ceremonial dress from the George Lucas film is expected to fetch up to $2 million alone, while the Batpod is thought to make around the same.

The Harry Potter outfit – which comes complete with the character’s signature round glasses – is thought to make up to $150,000.

Other items in the auction include Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord helmet from Guardians of the Galaxy, Brad Pitt’s Troy shield and Michael Keaton’s Batsuit from the 1989 film.
