Phillip Schofield gulps as ITV This Morning guest talks ‘getting away with double life’

Phillip Schofield looked visibly uncomfortable during a tense chat with Suranne Jones about living “double lives” on This Morning just three days before he sensationally quit the show.

According to the Daily Mail, the disgraced TV presenter, 61, could be seen clenching his jaw during the awkward discussion with the actress, 44.

On May 17, the Gentleman Jack star appeared on the show to talk about her new series Mayland which follows two sisters discovering their murdered mother’s double life.

It came just days before the former ITV host stepped down from his presenting role when his affair with a “much younger” colleague came to light.

In the resurfaced video, she said: “The logistics of a double life fascinate me and how someone gets away with having two separate lives and basically lying on such a huge scale.”

As she spoke about the programme, Phillip appeared extremely uncomfortable as his eyes widened slightly while he appeared to gulp and clench his jaw with his hands clenched at his knees.

It appeared as though Suranne’s comments caused a visceral reaction in the star shortly before his affair came to light followed by several other resurfaced videos of the star with his younger lover.

Three days after their interview, the host quit ITV after he admitted that he lied about an “unwise but not illegal” affair with the “much younger” ITV employee.

He also apologised to his wife of nearly 30 years, Stephanie Lowe, who stood by him after he came out as gay in 2020.

In a statement on Monday, Phillip slammed “a handful of people” with “persistently loud voices” as he shut down claims of a “toxic” culture at This Morning.

He wrote: “Now I no longer work on This Morning I am free to say this. I hope you have noticed that it’s the same handful of people with a grudge against me or the show who seem to have the loudest voice.

“This Morning IS the best show to work on, with the best people. In all the years I worked there there was no toxicity. You can listen to those persistently loud voices if you like.

“But the thousands of guests over the years, thousands of staff and crew, hundreds of presenters and contributors all know it, it IS a family of wonderful, talented, kind, hardworking people.”

His comment comes after Dr Ranj Singh, who was a regular guest on This Morning, accused the show of having a “toxic” culture of bullying and discrimination.

He added that he took his comments to “the top” but felt he had been “managed out” and was subsequently dropped from screens.

After Schofield issued his statement, his former co-star Eamonn Holmes branded him “delusional” in a scathing response.

Holmes – who previously presented This Morning but now works for GB News – told the dad-of-two that if he was “looking for a fight” he had “picked the wrong person.”

The 63-year-old tweeted: “Schofield has just put out a delusional statement. Like Holly he put it on Insta Stories so if it goes wrong there is no record after 24 hrs.

“I’m reluctant to give the liar any more publicity but believe me Pip if u r looking for a fight, u have picked on the wrong person!”

The journalist has been a critic of Schofield for several years, believing he would get his “comeuppance” for the way he’s treated others in the past – including his wife Ruth Langsford.
