Charlie pointed them out and said: “Aw, there’s a little bird sitting on the fence behind you. He’s been listening to your every word, Mike. Can you see? On the fence behind you?”

Bushell then suddenly turned around to take a peek at the gatecrasher, which turned out to be a small black and white bird similar to a magpie.

Mike was reporting on location when his co-stars noticed something

Stayt, Bushell and Munchetty all gazed behind the reporter to get a better look as production zoomed in the cameras.

With glee, Mike pointed at the creature and exclaimed: “Got a little friend here, have I? Oh, he’s down there. Look!”

Charlie then told the sports star that he was “trying to spot what sort of bird it is,” but eventually gave up and asked for the viewers’ help as he was “sure someone could tell them”.

They all noticed the sweet onlooker

He then joked that “Twitterers” could tell them as Naga assured him they will “get in touch”.

Mike also noted that the bird’s location is “where the fielders will be later on” as Munchetty thanked him for his report.

Breakfast then cut back to the presenters in the studio who carried on with the morning’s bulletin.

As expected, fans flocked to Twitter to confirm what type of bird the creature was.

One viewer wrote: “The bird at Edgebaston is a pied wagtail,” with the hashtag BBC Breakfast.
