Cheryl’s business in £1.35million debt as she launches new Girls Aloud venture

Cheryl Tweedy’s latest business accounts make for grim reading after it was revealed her entertainment company is a whopping £1.35million in debt.

The 40-year old rose to fame as one fifth of Girls Aloud in the noughties, before going on to achieve solo success and star as a judge on ITV’s X Factor. However, a lack of music since 2019 and the BBC’s axing of her show, The Greatest Dancer, a year later has coincided with CC Entertainment’s financial struggles.

Her accounts for the year ending June 2022 – made public by Companies House on Monday (October 2) – show a slight improvement on the previous year’s figures, however, when she was £1.46m in the red.

Putting previous disappointments behind her, meanwhile, Cheryl earned critical acclaim earlier this year as she turned her attentions to acting.

The mother-of-one made her West End debut in January as she was cast in the leading role of Jenny in 2:22 A Ghost Story. The gig, which lasted three months, is said to have earned her a cool £1,000 per night in a timely boost to her depleted coffers.

Her performances prompted a bidding war from production companies keen to sign her up, though her next destination is yet to be confirmed. Elsewhere, Cheryl has joined forces with Girls Aloud bandmates, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts to launch a new company.

Let’s Go Eskimo – a reference to the girls’ monster 2004 hit, Love Machine – has been established to gather all income from the Girls Aloud empire. And it could prove the biggest hint yet that the pop stars are set to reform after a decade-long hiatus.

The band reunited briefly in October last year to celebrate the life of their bandmate, Sarah Harding, who died in 2021 aged 39 after battling breast cancer. One of Sarah’s final wishes was for her pals to raise money for cancer charities, with the girls duly obliging by holding a fundraising ball in her honour.

The girls also took part in Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life in Hyde Park last year. At the time Cheryl explained: “To be honest, I’ve never experienced or anticipated this grief. You know, I’ve lost grandparents and a friend when I was younger but nothing like this.”

She continued: “You feel so helpless, you’ve never felt hopelessness like it, it’s horrendous. So the fact that Sarah had one request that we can fulfil is great for us because it just feels like we’re doing something. We felt like there was nothing we could do for so long.”
