Shannen Doherty has said that she is “not done with living” amid her breast cancer battle.
The Beverly Hills 90210 actress’ cancer has spread to her bones and the star has insisted that she “doesn’t want to die”. Doherty told People: “I don’t want to die. I’m not done with living. Shannen continued: “It’s insane to me [that] we still don’t have a cure […] People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age – ‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not.”
The Charmed actress said that people with breast cancer are “vibrant,” “have such a different outlook on life” and are “people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward”.
Doherty’s positive attitude was clear as she stated “her greatest memory is yet to come” and confessed that she “prays” and “wakes up and goes to bed thanking God”. She said: “[I pray] for the things that matter to me without asking for too much. It connects me to a higher power and spirituality. My faith is my mantra.”
Although she admitted that “it sounds cheesy and crazy” but she is “just more aware of everything” and “feels so blessed”. The Beverly Hills 90210 star, who played Brenda Walsh on the show, said that people living with cancer “want to work the most” because they are “just so grateful for every second, hour and day they get to be alive”.
Shannen’s comments come as part of the publication’s latest cover story. Doherty first revealed that she had Stage 4 breast cancer eight years ago back in 2015.
She survived her initial battle but sadly the disease returned. In 2020, she announced that she was once again struggling with cancer, which came back at some point in 2019.
Shannen is set to talk more about her illness on her new memoir podcast. The show, Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, will drop on December 6 over on iHeartRadio.
