Sky News’ Kay Burley posts horrifying pic as health issue forces her off screens

Sky News host Kay Burley was completely unrecognisable in a horrifying snap which explained why she’d been forced to miss the show this week.

The 62-year-old was off work on Thursday (December 7) and she has revealed it was due to an allergic reaction. But it was clearly very severe, judging from the photo she has shared.

In it, Kay’s face was swollen and stretched, with her eyes almost forced shut. She looked completely different to the glamorous persona she brings on Sky News.

She wrote on the photo: “When allergies prevent you from being on the TV. Sorry to have missed you all today.”

Kay is yet to return to Sky News’ breakfast show. However she normally doesn’t work Fridays anyway, as Anna Jones fronts the show to close out the week.

It’s not known exactly what has caused Kay’s allergic reaction – but this isn’t the first time she was forced off screens. Back in 2000, she caused fury after breaking Covid guidelines.

She was dragged off-air after celebrating her 60th birthday with pals and co-workers in London, despite there being strict Covid rules in place. Her bosses at Sky confirmed she would be off screens for six months.

Political editor Beth Rigby and reporter Inzamam Rashid were also in attendance. They both agreed to step away for three months.

Sky News said: “All those involved regret the incident and have apologised. Everyone at Sky News is expected to comply with the rules and the company takes breaches like this very seriously indeed.”

Meanwhile, Kay claimed she had gone to a Covid-compliant restaurant before going to another to use a toilet. However it was reported that she had invited some of the attendees into her home, therefore breaking rules.

In a statement at the time, Kay said: “It doesn’t matter that I thought I was Covid-compliant on a recent social event. The fact is I was wrong, I made a big mistake, and I am sorry.

“Some dear friends and colleagues – some of the most talented and committed professionals in our business – have been pulled into this episode and I regret this enormously.”
