The Chase quizzer Darragh Ennis couldn’t help but make a cheeky swipe at a player’s epic answer fail.
Four new players joined host Bradley Walsh for Thursday’s episode of the ITV gameshow (December 21) as they battled it out to take home a cash prize. Dean, Adie, Tom and Fee all battled it out against chaser Darragh, aka “The Menace” but it was player Dean that caught everyone’s attention.
During his cash builder round he was asked “Before becoming head of the UN, Anthony Gutierrez was prime minister of what European country?” Shockingly, Dean answered: “Argentina,” a country that is on the continent of South America not Europe.

Bradley informed him that the answer was in fact Portugal, before Darragh felt compelled to make a cheeky dig. When introducing himself to Dean, he referenced his desire to book a vacation with his 10-year-old son with his winnings, saying: “Maybe after that Argentina answer, let your son book the next holiday.” Fans too were stunned at the answer. “Did he say Argentina was European?” blasted one fan.
“Argentina is in Europe??? Glad Darragh called him out on that FAIL!!” penned a second. But Dean ended walking away with the last laugh as his full team was able to take a nice £22k into the final chase. After answering 19 questions correctly, Darragh appeared confident going into his Q&A with Bradley but soon began to stumble. He offered up a whopping nine attempts to push back and still needed eight more answers to catch the team. Darragh humbly admitted his performance was “terrible.”
“I was terrible and you were brilliant,” he told them. You just get getting all the pushbacks, time got shorter and shorter, I started reaching for answers, it was the perfect storm. I was terrible and you were brilliant and you deserve the money.”
Fans also reacted online, saying: “”From being the strongest link in the last round, Darragh, you are now The Weakest Link, goodbye”……….until next time on #TheChase.” A second penned: “Solid team today but a v poor performance from The Menace. Always stand a chance against him cos there are more gaps in his knowledge than the others,” while a third added: “We still love you Darragh!”
