Fred Sirieix has no plans to quit First Dates – and wants it to run for 10 more years

Fred Sirieix reckons First Dates is a hit because it’s more genuine than rival shows.

These days the TV schedules are packed with formats about romance like Love Island and Married At First Sight. But he is confident they just can’t compete when it comes to matchmaking.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “First Dates is different to other shows like Love Island. It’s about people finding true love. It’s about making a true meaningful connection. It’s not for any other reason but the connection. It’s pure in its very essence.

“There aren’t any fireworks. We don’t have anything on the side to distract from the purpose of the show. That’s what I like about First Dates.

“With a lot of shows, too many things get diluted or there are things on the side. But First Dates is pure.”

First Dates has a team of romance experts who use years of experience to pair up couples.

They do whatever it takes to get it right.

Fred, 51, said: “People come here because they want to meet someone they can fall in love with. And we take that very seriously.

“People trust us because they know we are going to deliver for them. We find somebody we think they’re going to like. We do it very well.

“And we are kind. We aren’t making a show that makes people feel or look bad. The intent of the show is to put someone with a person they’re going to like.”

First Dates celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. After a decade on telly, it remains one of Channel 4’s biggest shows.

Fred said: “The public love this show. We can all relate to the people on it. It’s comforting to watch. Hopefully the show will carry on for another 10 years.”

The show has been given a revamp for its new series. It has relocated to fancy restaurant The Botanist in Bath and has a raft of new staff.

Fred said: “Bath is the perfect place for First Dates to be. It’s a romantic place. It doesn’t have all the hustle and bustle of London. People are very friendly and kind. There are all the foundations for it to work.

“The new staff are fantastic, too. They have got what they show is about straightaway. They have brought a new energy to the show.”

Fred is more famous than ever after his stint on I’m A Celebrity so he’s likely to get plenty of lucrative offers coming his way in the coming months. But he has no plans to quit First Dates.

He said: “I want to do it forever. I love the show, I love what we do and I love that we put people together. I enjoy doing it. That’s why I’ll carry on doing it.”
