Dan Walker has revealed he is making a huge new career move that will see him returning to breakfast programming, some two years after he left BBC Breakfast.
Walker, 46, announced in April 2022 on Twitter that he would be leaving his role at the BBC after working at the company for 13 years. Writing in a statement at the time, he admitted that he had been given an offer by another channel that was impossible to pass up.
He explained more in the statement: “Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait. I’ve also had the incredible privilege of working on some iconic programmes over the last few years, both at the BBC and elsewhere and what I love about this deal is I not only get to present the news but also host a whole range of programmes right across the channel.”

Instead, Dan left the BBC behind to move to Channel 5 News, where he went on to become a regular presenter of the 5pm news bulletin. It was during his time at the channel that he was able to cover huge news stories include Queen Elizabeth’s death.
Now, the journalist has revealed that he is to add another string to his bow as he joins the line-up for Classic FM. The radio station, which plays classical music announced that Dan would be joining the station to present the breakfast show on the channel.
Dan now joins fellow broadcasters including Alexander Armstrong, Myleene Klass and Charlotte Hawkins who have hosted a show on the radio station. He also follows in the footsteps of the late Bill Turnbull, who also was a regular presenter on BBC Breakfast.
Speaking about his new role, Dan was thrilled at the news finally being confirmed: “This is an amazing chance to join one of the biggest radio stations in the country. I’m over the moon that I’m going to be part of Classic FM’s brilliant line-up and presenting the breakfast show is a wonderful opportunity.
“I am passionate about classical music and I’m a long-time listener I also love the breakfast audience and I think they know me well so I can’t wait to get started,” he added. Classic FM boss Philip Noyce added he was more than happy to welcome Dan to the family as the new year gets underway.
