Emmerdale fans reckon they’ve figured out a character’s return after the village was rocked by a tragic death on New Year’s Day.
Teenager Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) sadly lost his life in a joyriding accident leaving viewers of the ITV soap heartbroken. The young lad, his twin sister Cathy hope (Gabrielle Dowling) and Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) were desperate to attend a New Year’s Eve party.
After their dad Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) refused to pay for a taxi, they decided to steal Wendy Posner’s (Susan Cookson) car. Despite a near-crash, Cathy continued to drive recklessly, leading to a fatal accident. Wendy and Bob discovered the crash site, finding Cathy and Angelica injured and Heath trapped in the car. Despite attempts to save him, Heath tragically passed away in hospital.

Fans have been speculating that Scott Windsor (Ben Freeman) could return for Heath’s funeral. During Wednesday’s (January 3) episode, Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) was seen on the phone to Scott. She later told Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) that Scott apologised for teaching his younger sister Cathy how to drive a car when she went to stay with him over the summer
Following Brenda and Scott’s conversation, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “A familiar face set to return, to help one of the villagers whose in a bit of trouble. Could be Scott potentially? Come to grieve/bury his little bro, while also supporting his sister and stepdad? If Bob continues to distance himself from Cathy she’s gonna need him sadly.”
Someone else said: “Scott mention. I wonder if he’ll return for Heath’s funeral?”. A third person pointed out: “Scott mention.”. Someone else agreed: “He could bring daughter Jean with him. She’d be 22.” Scott hasn’t been seen in the village since 2007 but was mentioned recently when Cathy lived with him over the summer. Despite not appearing on Emmerdale since 2007, actor Ben Freeman made a brief appearance on EastEnders in 2021.
