Dancing on Ice star dealt crushing blow just before skate-off as first exit looms

Dancing on Ice star Ricky Hatton might be facing an early exit from the show.

The 45-year-old boxer, who’s used to taking a few hits in his career, is currently the least likely to win the ice-skating competition, according to bookies. He’s up against stiff competition, including ex-Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, Love Island champ Amber Davies and Eddie the Eagle.

After ending up in last week’s skate-off, things aren’t looking too promising for Ricky. Bookmakers have now given him slim odds of 66-1 to win the ITV show. “Sunday night was probably the knockout performance Ricky Hatton was hoping for as both him, and Stephen Mulhern took a tumble to the floor,” said Betfred showbiz specialist, Kayley Cornelius.

“While nerves may have gotten the best of Ricky, I thought the choreography itself was rather poor on Robin’s part, so I feel the harsh score of 12.5 from the judges was rather deserving when you compare the routine to the rest of the competition. It’s only the first week and the competition is already heating up with celebs like Ryan Thomas and Amber Davies taking to the ice like pros.

“The performance has been called the ‘worst in Dancing on Ice history’, even worse than Gemma Collins’ famous tumble. Ricky and his partner will need to seriously step up their game to avoid being sent home. As it stands, Ricky’s odds of winning are a measly 66/1 at Betfred, less than a 2% chance. If they don’t bring their A-game to the skate-off, Hatton might be heading home next.”

Ricky recently confessed to The Sun that he almost quit before his first show due to struggles during rehearsals. “Robin [Johnstone] has seen me from where I started from, so has Torvill and Dean,” he said. “I nearly chucked the towel in to be honest.”

In a planned joke last weekend, Ricky landed a punch on new host Stephen Mulhern, who admitted it “hurt a lot”. He said: “Ricky is one strong man, I asked him to punch me as a gag forgetting for a moment that he is a three time boxing world champion and yes it hurt, a lot!”

After the show, a post on Ricky’s X account said: “Ricky even landing knockout blows on Dancing On Ice. Hope you’re okay Stephen Mulhern.” Stephen then revealed: “I’m already starting to bruise!”

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
