Sam Thompson has revealed he is to release a range of “extra small” condoms in collaboration with JLS for the benefit of lesser-endowed men.
Four-piece boyband JLS began the venture way back in 2010 at the height of their popularity as they teamed up with condom giant Durex on the production of Just Love Safe – a pun on their name. Lead singer Aston Merrygold explained at the time that he was inspired by his mum, who worked with teenagers struggling to bring up babies.
“She works with young people affected by teenage pregnancy and urged us to use our JLS brand to make a difference,” he said. “Our fans listen to us and we want to make a dent in this huge problem. I had no choice but to learn about sexual health being as my mum works in the industry. My dad had diagrams on the wall – I learnt it all! Unfortunately not everyone had that and there is a problem with sex education in Britain.”

Now, I’m A Celebrity King of the Jungle Sam is on board with the idea too – something he discussed with best pal Pete Wicks on their Staying Relevant podcast show this week.
“I called Marvin [Humes] and he picked up and he said ‘Are you alright mate, what’s going on?’ It was 7am and I just went ‘I just gotta let you know that you’ve really recorded some bangers.”
Sam continued: “He was like ‘Are you serious? We haven’t really spoken that much on the phone since we left the jungle’. There’s more… we decided that I’ve got my own JLS condom coming out.” TOWIE’s Pete joked: “Oh excellent. We look forward to that. It’s extra small.”
Sam then interjected gleefully: “It is! It’s the extra small! It actually is! I said to Marvin ‘Look mate, I really want to be the representation of the smaller condoms’. And so I was like ‘Mate, if you don’t mind I’d love to just sort of just take one for the team and have the XS because I’ve noticed no-one else has one.’ My colour is purple! I’m doing it for the team!”
On their launch in 2010, Aston-themed packets of the product were blue, with Marvin green, Oritse Williams yellow and JB Gill red. Martyn Ward, Durex managing director, said at the time: “We applaud JLS for being young men who take a responsible attitude to sex and are delighted to partner them.”

Sam recently opened up on a health woe that almost made him quit I’m A Celebrity after one day. The 31-year-old recalled feeling extremely “overwhelmed” by the introduction to his fellow campmates and the camp itself, which triggered a “full-blown panic attack”. Sam, who received an ADHD diagnosis in 2022, described an episode where his “heart raced” and he began to “perspire and feel nauseous”.
He told the podcast: “So the first day we get there, I had a panic attack. I entered with such excitement, I was ecstatic. But then it dawned on me what we were about to do and I just sat there thinking ‘oh no’. My heart raced, I was sweating, and I felt like throwing up, thinking ‘I must be really sick, and maybe I need to see a doctor right away, or they might have to pull me out’.”
