Hollywood star Henry Cavill has admitted he “doesn’t understand” sex scenes, declaring: “I’m not a fan.”
The Superman actor spoke out against gratuitous scenes that only benefit the audience, rather than the plot of a movie. He made an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast alongside Argylle director Matthew Vaughn.
Speaking of sex scenes, Henry, 40, said: “There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience… [but] I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense that you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary, or is it just people with less clothing on?'”

The Netflix hunk went on: “That’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.'”
He’s not completely against sex scenes, though, adding they “can be great in a movie” and “really help with the storytelling”. However the muscular chap went on: “Most of the time, human imagination is gonna trump it.
“And so I think it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, ‘Oh, naked person, great’?”
It’s not the first time Henry has spoken of sex scenes – although his previous comments were very different. He admitted to getting aroused during one scene while filming The Tudors.
Speaking to Men’s Health back in 2015, Henry confessed: “It’s happened to me once… and it was very embarrassing. A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts, and I hadn’t rearranged my… stuff into a harmless position.
“She’s basically rubbing herself all over me, um, it got a bit hard. I had to apologise profusely afterward.
“It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable.”
