Dancing On Ice’s Roxy Shahidi forced to use special bum protection in training

Roxy Shahidi has confessed she’s bought extra special bum protection so she can give it her all on Dancing On Ice.

The Emmerdale actress has been skating along just fine so far, landing in the middle of the pack on the scoreboard. But to allow her to push herself even further, she has revealed she’s bought padded underwear.

The 40-year-old, who plays Leyla Harding in Emmerdale, said: “I got myself a pair of padded knicker so I could push myself on the ice, fall on my bum and be less scared of breaking things. I’ve still got quite a lot of scar tissue around the rib I dislocated and it just gets sore from time to time.

“My knee’s kind of hurting at the moment, but I’m managing it. My groin’s a little bit sore because of a jump.”

She added to The Sun: “To be honest, we’re all walking wounded on this show. I suppose that’s a testament to how touch it is on the ice.”

The soap star is partnered with pro skater Sylvain Longchambon, who is married to Coronation Street actress Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria Connor. The married couple were partnered together on Dancing On Ice in 2013, and tied the knot in 2016.

This isn’t the first time Roxy had been approached to show her skills in the rink. She confessed she was asked to do it around seven years ago, but discovered she was pregnant after the initial meeting.

The actress had been anxious about getting on the ice now that she is a mother and a little bit older. “But,” she said, “after 10 minutes on the ice, all my anxieties melted away.”

So far, three celebrities have been voted off the show. Boxer Ricky Hatton was the first to be eliminated, alongside his pro partner Robin Johnstone.

Next up, S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt and her partner Andy Buchanan were sent home. They were followed by actress Claire Sweeney and her pro skater Colin Grafton last week.

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6.20pm on ITV
