Sheridan Smith ditches staple blonde locks in major makeover after health diagnosis

She is known for her famous blonde locks which she has sported since the start of her television career.

But on Wednesday (February 14), Sheridan Smith decided to ditch her golden tresses ahead of her latest West End role. The 42-uyear-old actor is set to return to the stage later this year for the world premiere of the musical Opening Night.

The show, based on the 1977 hit film by the same name, is set to launch at the Gielgud Theatre in the heart of London next month. The mum-of-one will take on the role of Myrtle in the production and it’s clear to say she’s taking the role very seriously.

So seriously that the Gavin and Stacey star has decided to permanently transform into her character but dying her hair brunette. Documenting her makeover for the role, the TV star shared a clip of trip to the hair salon this week ahead of the upcoming opening night.

In a joint post shared by both Sheridan and the production’s account on Instagram, the Olivier Award winner could be seen excitedly sitting in the chair as she bid farewell to her trademark tresses. The captioned the post: “Watch our GLORIOUS leading lady [Sheridan] transform into Myrtle for #openingnightmusical.”

In the clip, she explained: “I’m in the hairdressers. This is the last time you are gonna see blonde hair for a long time. I’m about to transform. Ah, excited!” The clip opened with her dragging her fingers through her blonde hair before the hair stylist started dying her hair brunette.

After washing out the dye, the star styled her tresses into loose beachy waves which has amassed more than 12,000 likes since it was uploaded. It didn’t take long before her famous friends and loyal legion of fans showered her with compliments.

One user penned: “Oh this really suits you! Gorgeous” as another agreed: “You look amazing” while a third echoed: “Absolutely love it.” A fourth echoed: “Omg you look so different” as a fifth chimed in with: “And what a transformation, hello gorgeous.”

The news comes after Sheridan revealed she has been diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 42. The star explained that she has recently been seeing a therapist – admitting that she wishes she’d done it sooner but argued “there’s a real working-class stigma.”

The star, who shares son Billy with ex Jamie Horn, told British Vogue how she is in a WhatsApp group with other mums from Billy’s school. She revealed her pals have nicknames her ‘Shadow Sheridan’ because she doesn’t chat much due to overthinking.

The actor admitted that her recent ADHD diagnosis, which is helping “make a lot of sense” of things, like overanalysing and her brain’s background noise. She went on: “I should have had it sooner, but you know, there’s a real working-class [stigma].”

ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a condition that affects behaviour, according to the NHS. It can make people seem restless, have trouble focusing and act impulsively.

Often, ADHD symptoms are noticed during childhood, but many people, especially women, are only diagnosed as adults. There’s no cure for ADHD and treatments depend on the person.
