Some of your favourite stars will be tackling the 2024 London Marathon this weekend.
A number of celebrities will be swapping the glitz and glamour for running boots and taking to the starting line for the annual event in London on Sunday (April 21). They may be used to the glitz and the glamour, but they’ll be sweating out just like the rest of us as they run 26.2 miles across the capital.
And they’ll be huffing and puffing past the landmarks for great causes. They’re raising money and awareness for various charities that they’re supporting while trying to set a personal best.

Daily Star has rounded up the biggest stars running this year’s London Marathon. And it looks like one of them has stolen from McFly.
Joel Dommett
Joel Dommett is definitely going to stand out as he’s running in costume, and not just any old costume. He’s got the blessing of McFly star Danny Jones to run as Piranha, with Danny having won The Masked Singer 2024 as the big fish.
Joel, who hosts the ITV show, is supporting Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. He showed off his outfit on Instagram and wrote: “Can’t believe I’m writing this – but I’m running 26.2 miles in the Piranha costume for the incredible charity @sschospices. They provide end of life care for children and do some amazing work for families in need.
“After Wilde was born I started to fully realise how important this charity is to the families who need it and I really want to raise LOADS for them. Click the link in my bio to donate.. I thought it was also an amazing chance for everyone to see the costume along the route! So donate something and pop down and cheer me on!
He added: “21st April… I’ll will need your help! A huge thank you to @dannyjonesofficial for letting me adopt his sweaty fish and to @plungecreations for letting me borrow it! LETS GOOOO!”
Romesh Ranganathan
Comedian Romesh is running his first ever London Marathon this year. The Weakest Link presenter is running un support of Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
He told Runners World: “Running always kicks your a***”. It’s easy to take up; it’s really hard to master. That’s what stand-up is like: it’s easy to start, but very difficult to get really good at.
“And I think that’s what running is like: every time you think you’ve cracked it, the god of running goes, ‘I’m going to give you something else to kick your a***’.”
Emma Barton & Jamie Borthwick
EastEnders duo Emma and Jamie are returning to the London Marathon again but this time they’re doing it as part of a storyline on the BBC soap. Their characters Honey and Jay are paying tribute to Jay’s late wife Lola, who died of a brain tumour last year.
A source said: “The marathon is such a huge part of the London calendar and so it was time it featured in EastEnders. And as bosses plotted Jay would take part, they hit on the ingenious idea of asking Jamie to do it for real.
“Jamie was a bit surprised – it was quite an undertaking. And he’s committed to rigorous training for months.” They added: “He’s a great sport and loves his job, so didn’t need asking twice.”
TOWIE’s Chloe Meadows
TOWIE beauty Chloe, who revealed her ulcerative colitis diagnosis last year, is supporting Crohn’s and Colitis UK. She was diagnosed with the condition six years ago.
She said: “I’m over the moon to be supporting Crohn’s & Colitis UK this year in the TCS London Marathon. Last year marks a personal milestone as I shared my journey and story with Colitis for the first time, thanks to the unwavering support from the charity.
Taking on the marathon is the perfect way for me to raise awareness and vital funds enabling the charity to extend its supportive hand to others in the Crohn’s and colitis community, just as it has done for me”.
Ruth Wilson
Jane Eyre and Luther star Ruth is appearing for Alzheimer’s Research UK following her father’s recent diagnosis. She’s running the Marathon with her three siblings and nephew.
She said: “Whether we run together or in healthy competition with each other is yet to be seen but with every step, Dad will be in our hearts, together with the hundreds of thousands living with this awful disease and those caring for them”.
Tom Grennan
Chart-topping London singer Tom only started training for the Marathon eight weeks ago, but given his impressive footy skills, we have no doubt he’ll be fine. The star, who is running for homeless charity Shelter, has been seen running topless on country roads ahead of the big day.
He admitted he might be able to enlist the help of one of Britain’s best ever runners. He told the Mirror he might call his Soccer Aid pal Mo Farrah for some advice, saying: “I’m actually running the marathon so I was going to be hitting up for Mo for a little bit of advice, hopefully he can teach me a few things”.
Christopher Eccleston
Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston will be sweating it out in support of The Big Issue. On Instagram he wrote: “If you’d like to donate link is in bio and #bigissueuk. Thank you”.
In a clip posted on Instagram, he said: “Thank you for everybody who’s sponsored my so far. It’s very moving what people have done, thank you.”
Phil Dunster
Ted Lesso actor Phil is doing the cardio for Young Lives Versus Cancer, a charity which helped cover his cousin’s family’s medical expenses. He said: “I’m equal parts excited and terrified… that I’ll be running the London Marathon this year. I want to raise as much as I can to help Young Lives vs Cancer social workers be there for more children like Rory and their parents”.
