Jay-Z fans left confused as Beyoncé’s mum ‘likes’ post about rape accusation

Jay-Z fans are confused after Beyoncé ‘s mum liked a post relating to his rape accusation.

Rapper Jay-Z, whose real name is Sean Carter, spoke out after a lawsuit was updated to include him. The 99 Problems singer is accused of raping a then-13-year-old girl in the year 2000, together with Sean Combs, known as P Diddy. Jay-Z denies the allegation.

The claims relate to an afterparty following the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. Jay-Z has slammed the claims, refuting all allegations made against him, and has instructed his legal team to represent him in his new legal battle.

However, fans of the legendary rapper and producer were left confused when one user appeared to like a post relating to the incident. A post uploaded to Instagram by news channel ABC in Chicago was liked by Beyoncé’s mum Tina.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for longer than two decades, though the pair have had their rocky patches in the past. However, fans were left bemused as to why Tina had liked a post regarding the accusation.

Some fans rushed to the comments section of the post to express their bewilderment at the bizarre interaction. One fan wrote: “Not Tina Knowles liking the post,” – a comment which garnered 50 likes.

Other users were quick to try and rationalise the move, with one account speculating: “She’s a senior citizen, I’m sure it was a mistake.” A third also chimed in to give their opinion, adding: “She does this a lot by accident; she’s even liked posts speaking ill of Beyoncé in the past.”

Back in 2020, Tina shared a number of snaps of her daughter Solange’s debut on Saturday Night Live – including a snap of Solange, her family and Jay-Z in an elevator.

Fans quickly caught wind of the snap, and rushed to the account where it was quickly taken down from the carousel just minutes after it was uploaded. The picture could have brought unsavoury memories of Solange’s incident with Jay-Z in an elevator at the Met Gala afterparty in 2014, where she attacked him before having to be restrained by others in the lift.

Following intense speculation that Solange was “provoked” into taking on the rapper in the elevator, both Jay-Z and Solange released a joint statement trying to quash rumours of a family rift. “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” the statement read.

“They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other, and we have moved forward as a united family.”
