BBC Breakfast fans left confused minutes into show by ‘axed’ element

BBC Breakfast viewers couldn’t help but complain this morning as they noticed a key element of the show was missing.

BBC Breakfast fans were grumbling just minutes into the show as they noticed a crucial feature seemed to have been “axed”.

Hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were back on our screens this morning, Saturday, February 8, dishing out the latest headlines, from a march against knife crime following teenager Harvey Willgoose’s tragic death, to Trump’s thwarted attempt to furlough thousands of USAid workers.

Known for its iconic set featuring the big red sofa, another staple of the programme is the red clock in the bottom right-hand corner.

But when fans switched on at 6am, the clock was conspicuously absent and failed to make an appearance for the first hour and 15 minutes of the broadcast.

This gaffe didn’t slip past eagle-eyed viewers who swiftly headed to X, the new Twitter, to voice their dismay at the missing timepiece. “Apprentice Pete must be on graphics today.. No clock..”, quipped one viewer.

Another chimed in: “No clock on #BBCbreakfast today but we did have some #election results pop up for a moment.”

A third lamented: “I don’t know ….they axed click ,now they have axed the clock …what’s next the sofa”, while someone else queried: “Where’s the …”, followed by an alarm clock emoji.

The absence wasn’t permanent, though, as the clock made its return to the screen before long, prompting a relieved fan to remark: “They’ve remembered to put the clock back on.”

Another added cheerfully: “First Charlie and now Naga telling us the time! Welcome back [alarm clock emoji]”.

This happened just days after a previous blunder on Thursday, February 6, another technical hiccup struck.

Discussing how kids handle grief, Charlie shared: “The Prince of Wales has opened up to teenagers battling bereavement about the painful experience of his mother, the late Princess Diana, dying when he was just 15 years old.”

However, as a voiceover started detailing a charity’s efforts, the camera goofed up, lingering on Charlie and Naga while they greeted guests and got up from their sofa – completely unaware that they were still being broadcasted live.

The issue was swiftly resolved and normal programming resumed, but it didn’t slip by the eagle-eyed viewers.

One audience member remarked: “Someone pressed the wrong buttons and it ended up being pretty wholesome view behind the scenes.”

Another chimed in with “Oops camera fail”, while someone else quipped with a touch of humour: “#BBCBreakfast Is Apprentice Pete on the cameras this morning?”.
