Gene Hackman may not have been aware that his wife died a week before he did, according to officials.
The latest press hearing took place on Friday (March 7) as police and medical professionals issues a huge update, suggesting that it was “quite possible that he was not aware that she was deceased.” Though the full police update can be found here.
According to the reports, Betsy Arakawa, 65, passed away a week before her husband Gene, 95. The medical examiner concluded that Gene was on his own several days, or even an entire week, after his wife died.
Dr Heather Jarrell claims it is unclear whether he was able to survive on his own without her help as he “showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer’s disease”.
She added she was “not aware of his normal daily functioning capability”.

Betsy’s cause of death was revealed as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome – a disease which is carried by infected rodents. It is likely, it was said, that Betsy died on February 11, with it “reasonable to conclude” that husband Gene died a week later on February 18.
The cause of Hackman’s death was noted as hypertensive cardiovascular disease with Alzheimer’s as a factor, Dr Jarrell said.
There was evidence severe heart disease and multiple heart attacks while a scan on Hackman’s brain found advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
She added that his pacemaker stopped recording any cardiac activity around the day of February 18.

The couple’s bodies were allegedly showing signs of decomposition and were partially mummified after being left for a while without being found.
Previously, Sante Fe Police revealed said that the famous actor was found dead in his property’s mud room, alongside his cane and sunglasses, whereas Betsy was discovered lying on the bathroom floor with prescription pills nearby.
