Harry Potter and Holby City star earns £14 an hour with job away from fame

EXCLUSIVE: Harry Potter and Holby City actor Guy Henry has opened up about a role he “enjoys” away from fame – and how fans are usually “confused” after recognising him

Harry Potter and Holby City actor Guy Henry has a side hustle that pays £14 an hour away from the spotlight.

The film and TV star, 64, spoke exclusively to Daily Star as he promoted his new Sci-Fi comedy film Time Travel Is Dangerous, which is out in cinemas now. This follows the news that the wizarding franchise is also set for a return to screens on HBO.

Guy told us: I do enjoy driving coaches between acting jobs. Yes people do often recognise me which confuses them a bit…

“Usually from Holby… I tell them i was never a qualified surgeon but i have passed my bus driving test so please sit down and put your seatbelt on!”

The actor also previously told The Times: “When I’m not acting I drive coaches for £14 an hour”.

Guy is best known for playing Henrik Hanssen in Holby City and Pius Thicknesse in Harry Potter, though has plenty of other acting credits to his name.

During his early career he suffered a rather red-faced moment when he was dressed up to play the character of Paris in romeo and Juliet. He explained: “When I was very young I had to play the supposedly handsome character of ‘Paris’, Juliet’s suitor in ‘Romeo & Juliet’.

“Obviously I was supposed to look as good as possible but the wardrobe department made me a figure-hugging light blue frock coat outfit that made my lanky frame look like a grasshopper on heat! Or a pimply young bell-hop at the Waldorf Astoria.”

Guy also shared some intel into his new film, which stars Johnny Vegas, and himself playing the character of Martin. He said: “It’s unusual and funny and warm. It’ll probably cheer you up.

“Martin is a rather mean-spirited uptight nerd but i grew rather fond of him! He does get to learn a little generosity…”

He added: “It was such a nice crowd and it was lovely to work with Johnny Vegas – on the face of it he and I are rather different of course but we got on famously. Lots of laughing!”

Guy also addressed his long-standing role in Holby, which came to an end in 2022 after the BBC show was axed. Guy shared: “Holby City was wonderful. Mr. Hanssen was a terrific character and the cast and crew were truly lovely. I should point out it wasn’t actually a soap, it was continuing drama.

“An hour of telly every week… 52 hours of drama a year. That’s like making 26 feature films a year, a huge challenge for the writers, especially as on Holby they had only three interior sets and a car park to work with!”
