One regular from The White Lotus has confirmed their exit, saying they won’t be back for season four.

The show is just days away from airing the season three finale, with fans speculating about who could die and who could be the killer. Viewers have also been taking extra notice of the opening credits, believing they hold the key to figuring it all out.

The HBO show’s theme tune is always one of the most talked about elements of the show. The second season had an especially popular track, with DJs even making remixes to play in nightclubs.

The third season took a different approach and moved away from the iconic tune and “ooh-loo-loo” singing.

And it seems season four could make an even bigger change, as the composer behind the opening theme tune has confirmed they will not be part of it.

Speaking to The New York Times, composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer has revealed that he has already told the team behind the show that he was leaving – but not show writer Mike White. He explained there were creative disagreements behind the scenes that added to his decision.

Cristóbal, who has won eight awards including a number of Emmys for the music, said: “Maybe I was being unprofessional, and for sure Mike feels that I was always unprofessional to him because I didn’t give him what he wanted. But what I gave him did this, you know — did those Emmys, people going crazy.”

Fans have been left devastated by the composer’s exit, with one saying: “This show would not be what it is without you, and whoever comes next has some big shoes to fill.” Another said the news “broke their heart”, adding: “Your music IS the White Lotus!”

But it turns out the iconic theme tune almost didn’t happen, Cristóbal said: “When I got the script, I wasn’t sure that it was something for me, because it was very well written, but there’s a realty TV kind of vibe going on, and comedic. My stuff in general is the opposite of this, it’s super dark and edgy.”

Despite the differing ideas, the second season’s theme tune became a viral sensation. But the third season moved away from the recognisable “ooh-loo-loo” vocals, which fans weren’t happy about.

Cristóbal said: “People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting.” He had hoped to at some point include the full version, which does include the vocals “but then Mike cut that”.

“I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think,” said Cristóbal. “So he was just saying no to anything.”

Since, the musician has released the extended cut on YouTube. And it’s safe to say fans are obsessed.
