Nick Moran, 55, tried ease a neck pain by using Deep Heat – but his concerned girlfriend urged him to see a GP before he was then admitted to A&E with a life-threatening condition
A Harry Potter star may never walk again after he was rushed to hospital to undergo major surgery after being diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.
An image of Nick Moran, who played Scabior in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2, lying in a hospital bed and wearing a neck brace was posted social media earlier today (April 11). His close pal, actor Terry Stone wrote: “News update for you all on Nick Moran.
“He’d had major surgery and is recovering in the ICU he’s giving us the thumbs up but still needs your support, prayer and love.” Nick, 55, gives the thumbs up in the photo and, according to Terry, is a “very private person”.
As well as appearing in the final two Harry Potter films, he is also best known for starring in Guy Ritchie’s classic film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. Speaking to MailOnline, Terry said: “He’s recovering but [doctors] basically said he might never walk or talk again, which was traumatic.
“He’s not in the best of health, but when he came out of the operation I was like ‘thank God’ because I think he’d decided he’d rather not walk or talk than die.” Terry added that it was Nick’s girlfriend who encouraged him to get a pain in his neck checked out after he insisted on just using Deep Heat on it.

After visiting a doctor, he was then sent to A&E and told he needed an emergency operation as the situation was “life threatening”. He was told that damage in his neck could cost him the use of his speech and legs unless something was done about it immediately.
The subsequent surgery involved cutting into his spine and removing four bones from his neck. Terry, who is also Nick’s podcast co-host, said that Nick and his family were happy for him to share the health update with fans after the apparently successful surgery.
He went on: “We did a fantastic podcast together a few months back. Nick is very private and isn’t on social media he did ours as an exclusive & you can all tune in to watch us together this Sunday at 6pm.
“If there are any further updates on Nick I will let you all know in the live chat this coming Sunday.” Terry also said that Nick is now “speaking and shuffling around” while he recovers from the major surgery.
Nick’s first major role was alongside Roger Daltrey and Chesney Hawkes in 1991’s Buddy’s Song. While he is also a playwright and filmmaker in 2008 directed an adaption of his play Telstar, which starred James Corden and Kevin Spacey.
