Britain’s Got Talent is set to see a number of hopeful contestants battle it out for a place in the final as the semi-finals are set to air every Saturday night
Britain’s Got Talent live shows kicked off tonight on ITV1 with a number of technical difficulties which even delayed an act – but fans can’t help but criticise one new aspect of the show.
Before the acts kicked off, long time presenter Ant and Dec revealed that the Golden Buzzer is making a comeback during the live shows. Traditionally, this buzzer has been used in the auditions to ensure a chosen act makes it through to the live shows. Now, judges can each hand pick one act they wish to see in the final, too.
Each judge, plus Ant and Dec, will get a chance the use the buzzer every Saturday night. ITV said: “In each semi-final, either one of the judges or Ant and Dec will be given control of the golden buzzer, and as soon as they see a performance worthy of a place in the final, they will have just one opportunity to press it.”
They added: “That act will be granted a one-way ticket to the final, along with one other act from that night who will be voted in by the public.”
This huge switch up has left fans furious, with claims that the addition is “pointless.” Amanda, who was given the responsibility to press the buzzer tonight (April 26) slammed it for Swedish light show act, BlackOuts. However, fans weren’t best pleased.
One X user wrote: “I’m not saying that BlackOuts don’t deserve to be in the final but a Golden Buzzer at this point denies those that follow the chance to have one. And for it to be their second as well…”
Another added: “I think the new format is really flawed. Amanda pressured to press the golden buzzer so early on makes means acts don’t get a fair chance. The acts so far are not really special or deserving of a golden buzzer.”
A third said: “What is the point in the judges having a golden buzzer if the over the top audience is dictating who gets it? They were good but the audience need to calm the hell down.”
“Is it fair that some acts get 2 Golden Buzzers this year? (One in Auditions one in Semi Final) When some acts that are brilliant don’t get any at all. This is why the Golden Buzzer shouldn’t be in the LIVE shows. It’s an unfair advantage,” noted a fourth.
A fifth confused user penned: “I don’t get why they do the golden buzzer in the Semis. Seems a bit pointless.” Another said: “If the audience are gonna determine the golden buzzer there’s no need for the judges.”
