A League of Their Own axed after 15 years as Sky confirm final series in statement

A League of Their Own is coming to an end after 15 years.

The beloved sports comedy panel show, which is hosted by Romesh Ranganathan, has been making us laugh for over a decade. Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to the Sky One hit as it’s coming off the airwaves.

However, it will return for one final “farewell series” that will air later this year. Sky have confirmed that the BAFTA-winning programme will return for a 20th anniversary series that will “celebrate everything that has made the show such a hit”.

Sky will begin shooting it in Manchester this August, in front of its largest live audience ever. Comedian Romesh Ranganathan will return as host, alongside team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott and series regular Micah Richards.

In its announcement on Monday (April 28), Sky said: “After fifteen years in the top-flight of TV, Sky’s much-loved sports comedy panel. show is set for one final glorious season. The team will begin filming its farewell series in Manchester this August — in front of its largest live audiences to date — ahead of airing on Sky Max and streaming on NOW later this year.

“Romesh Ranganathan will return to host the 20th anniversary series, alongside team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott, and series regular Micah Richards. Launched in 2010, the multi-BAFTA award-winning A League of Their Own has become one of Sky’s most successful and enduring entertainment formats.

“Over 15 years and 20 series, it has delivered unforgettable moments, gravity-defying challenges, and unbeatable banter — with a star-studded guest list that has included everyone from Premier League legends and Olympic champions to Hollywood A-listers and pop icons.

“The 20th series will celebrate everything that has made the show such a hit — with more laugh-out-loud gam”es, surprise guests and sporting chaos — all culminating in a joyful send-off to a truly iconic TV series.”

Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director of Original Unscripted at Sky, said: “Series 20 is the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything A League of Their Own has achieved and to give it the send-off it truly deserves.”

“We’re incredibly proud of the show — it’s been a cornerstone of Sky’s entertainment line-up for fifteen years and has delivered endless laughter, heart, and unforgettable moments. Huge thanks to the brilliant team at CPL Productions and to our fantastic on-screen line-up — Romesh, Jamie, Jill and Micah — who continue to bring such energy and chemistry to the show.”

Murray Boland, Creative Director, CPL Productions said: “The first episode of A League of Their Own was broadcast in March 2010. The idea we’d still be making the show in 15 years’ time, having also made nine series of ALOTO Road Trips and won two BAFTAs would’ve sounded totally impossible.

“It’s been an incredible journey. We would like to thank all the amazing performers, guests and sports stars for all the laughs and inspiration. We’d also like to thank all the brilliant people who’ve worked so hard on the production team and crew.

“Thank you to Sky for allowing us the privilege of making the show and a huge thank you to the fans who have watched and supported the show over the years.”

A League of Their Own first aired in 2010 and was hosted by James Corden for 13 seasons until Romesh took over. Freddie Flintoff was also a captain for the first 16 series – and comedian Jack Whitehall for several series.
