Blonde bombshell Helen Flanagan is eyeing up a return to Corrie’s Weatherfield as Rosie Webster, but it seems like she’s been dealt a crushing blow by soap bosses
Helen Flanagan reportedly approached Coronation Street bosses about a return to the soap.
The soap star, 34, has been struggling financially over the past few months, admitting that she turned down some exciting opportunities over her career that have since come back to haunt her. She has also been teasing a return to the cobbles, nearly seven years after she left to go on maternity leave.
It’s now claimed the Celebs Go Dating star approached ITV bosses about a potential return as blonde bombshell Rosie Webster. However, it seems like such a return is not looking likely at the moment.
Helen made her Corrie debut as Rosie back in 2000. She has left the soap on several occasions, including for her stint on I’m A Celebrity back in 2011.
Since then, Helen has returned to the street – back in 2017, but this stint was cut short when she opted to leave the soap again just one year later. Since then, she has had a spate of other TV appearances, including the South African version of I’m A Celeb, as well as a chaotic run on Celebs Go Dating.
But speaking to The Sun, a close friend of the actress has said that she has done enough reality TV and wants to refocus her career on her acting. “She has had enough of reality TV and would like a regular job,” the insider said.
“Helen recently spoke to a top Corrie producer about the possibility of coming back,” the source added. “But her character wouldn’t currently feed into any plots that are playing out.”
It comes as Helen opened up on her desire to go back into the soap as soon as possible. “I’d absolutely love to go back to Coronation Street, I really, really would,” she beamed in an interview with The Sun on Sunday.
“I’d love to see Rosie Webster come back as a single mum, having just left her partner,” she continued. “She’d dump her two kids with Sally and I think she would be an iconic barmaid at Rovers Return.”
Helen’s financial woes have continued to plague her recently, after it was revealed that she was selling off her eight-bedroom mansion, worth around £1million, after splitting from football star Scott Sinclair. While she ultimately wished that she did not have to leave, she explained that maintaining the house for her and her three children was simply too much.
She explained that she was struggling to look after the house in Bolton, adding that her three kids – all of whom are shared between Helen and Scott – would need to find somewhere soon. She sobbed: “It makes me sad I’m gonna be leaving.”
In January, she told Wirral Magistrates Court that she only has enough money to pay her tax and VAT and “that’s about it”. She said: “My job really is being a mum at home. Their dad works away. It’s really difficult at the moment now for me to be earning money.”
However, Helen’s love life is continuing to flourish. The Corrie star is now happily in love with Robbie Talbot after they both met on celebrity dating app Raya last year.
However, the pair suffered a setback when Robbie was forced to move out of her home – especially due to how Helen’s children were reacting to Robbie’s presence. She particularly mentioned that Matilda, 9, “struggles” when not seeing dad Scott and having Robbie in the house “maybe doesn’t help her”.
