David Beckham’s second eldest son Romeo delivered a moving birthday speech at his famous dad’s 50th birthday dinner in London, which his brother Brooklyn was notably absent from
Romeo Beckham gave a birthday speech at his famous dad David’s 50th birthday party.
David celebrated his 50th in style on Saturday (May 3), hiring out the swanky Core restaurant in Notting Hill for his nearest and dearest. The footy legend and United ace had been celebrating the milestone birthday all week as he’d been spotted dancing with wife Victoria to Islands in the Stream.
In snaps that can be seen here, Becks partied it up with his Spice Girl wife and A-listers such as Tom Cruise, Gordon Ramsay and Eva Longoria. However, there was one member of the family that was notably missing from the party.
Sadly, David’s eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz was nowhere to be seen, following reports of a growing rift between him and his family. However, David’s youngest children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, were all present at the event.
According to the Mirror, Romeo stepped up and delivered a speech on his dad’s big day. He arrived at the three Michelin starred restaurant in a taxi with his siblings clutching several cue cards to help him out.
He told guests: “Good evening everyone. I would like to start by thanking you all for being here tonight. I know without many of you in here tonight he wouldn’t be half of the man he is today. But to the man of the moment…”
It’s understood he went on to praise his dad at length after describing him as “the most amazing role model” on social media earlier this week. In a post on Instagram, featuring throwback snaps of David, he wrote: “Happy birthday to the most amazing role model, love you so so much [heart emoji]”.
It’s believed Brooklyn was in the UK at the time of David’s birthday, but the couple didn’t attend the party. It’s said David is “heartbroken” that Brooklyn didn’t attend the event and that he and Victoria had hoped he’d change his mind.
A source told The Sun: “David is heartbroken but putting a brave face on it. Tonight is all about celebration and love, and he is swimming in it.
“Brooklyn actually informed his parents a while ago that he and his wife, Nicola, would not be attending but, of course, David and Victoria desperately hoped he would change his mind. Brooklyn is a really sweet boy and everyone loves him dearly. They just hope things can be patched up soon.
The source added: “In the mean time, everyone around David are doing all they can to give him a magical evening to remember.” It’s believed Brooklyn and Nicola didn’t go to David’s other birthday celebrations at their £10 million Cotswolds home and in France, which saw the Beckham clan go wine tasting at a vineyard before having dinner at David’s favourite Parisian restaurant.
Brooklyn also didn’t wish his famous father a happy birthday on social media and was missing from a photo of one of David’s early birthday celebrations. However, David still mentioned Brooklyn in a birthday post shared on his social media.
In a heartfelt post full of throwback photos, the football icon said his kids were his ‘biggest accomplishment’ and that wife Victoria and his four children were “the reason I get out of bed each day”.
He wrote: “As I reflect on this Birthday I’m very grateful for many things in my life the teams I’ve played for, my teammates, managers, the fans, MY COUNTRY and being England captain, the children I have met over different charities I work with, my team in my business & the friends I have around me I feel truly blessed. But my biggest accomplishment is and will always be my family.
He continued: “My mum and dad who sacrificed so much for me to live my dream of becoming a footballer, my sisters who had to put up with following their brother around in the freezing cold watching me play football and my amazing nan and grandad… My wife and best friend of 28 years and my beautiful children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz & Harper you are the reason I get out of bed each day.”
It has been suggested there was tension over Romeo’s new girlfriend Kim Turnbull, 24, who went out with Brooklyn when they were teenagers and is an ex-girlfriend of Rocco Ritchie, whose parents are Madonna and Guy Ritchie.
But it’s claimed the alleged feud is to do with Nicola and things haven’t been the same between Brooklyn and his family since they got together in 2019. A source told the Daily Mail: “This is nothing to do with Kim and is all about Nicola. All David and Victoria want is their son back – and they will be there to welcome him any time.”
The source continued: “It’s a terribly sad situation and it’s been going on for a long time. They adore Brooklyn, their children are everything to them, but Brooklyn isn’t talking to them.”
