David Beckham’s mum Sandra West was overcome with emotion when she was reunited with her son for the first time since he was knighted by King Charles III last week
After being knighted by King Charles III for his contributions to sport and charity work, Sir David Beckham had an incredibly touching moment with his loved ones.
His mum, Sandra West, was brought to tears by the honour, which David called a “humbling honour”. With her husband’s knighthood, Victoria Beckham will now be known as Lady Victoria Beckham.
David shared a deeply moving message of pride, reflecting on fulfilling a “boyhood dream,” and said: “It will take a little while for the news to sink in, but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family”. The emotions ran high when David first saw his mum after receiving his knighthood.
On Instagram, David uploaded a snap of him tucking into some traditional pie and mash with his mum and sister Joanne.
He revealed in the caption: “Lunch with mum, haven’t seen her since the news. Mum cried when she arrived, cried during lunch and cried when I was leaving. A special moment for us all. Love you mum x”, reports OK!.
Fans poured in heartfelt congratulations in the comments section of David’s post, praising his well-deserved accolade.
One fan wrote: “Congratulations Sir David. So deserved. Will never forget how you honoured the late Queen”.
Another chimed in: “Awwww bless her. She should be proud of herself because she raised a good, down-to-earth son”.
Fans and loved ones congratulated David Beckham on his honorary title, expressing their joy and admiration for the former football star. One individual stated: “Sir David, this couldn’t have happened to anyone nicer! May the sun always shine down on you and your beautiful family”.
A mother empathised with Sandra Beckham’s emotional response, saying: “I totally understand all the proud tears. To you, Mrs Beckham, you did a great job raising your boy… Sir David Beckham”.
David’s sister Joanne also left a heartfelt comment, garnering over 800 likes: “She hasn’t stopped crying happy tears. Such special times. Unbelievably proud of you. Love you”.
Another person recalled a kind act by Beckham in the past, sharing how it had a lasting impact: “Congratulations, David – you sent my niece Evie a get well message a few years ago when she was seriously ill in the hospital with leukaemia and required a transplant.”
Now 18 and doing well, the niece had truly appreciated Beckham’s message, which gave her a much-needed boost during a difficult time. The family extended their gratitude, acknowledging Beckham’s well-deserved recognition for his charitable work over the years.
Since becoming a UNICEF ambassador in 2005, Beckham has continued his philanthropic efforts. He recently joined the King’s Foundation as an ambassador in 2024, supporting a charity initiated by King Charles in 1990.
In 2003, Beckham was bestowed with an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
However, he’s now received an even higher accolade – so it’s no wonder his family and friends are over the moon!
