Tulisa’s famous dad dies as singer pays emotional tribute to Mungo Jerry star

Tulisa’s music star dad has died.

The N-Dubz singer has been left heartbroken after the passing of her famous dad Steve Contostavlos, who was in the rock band Mungo Jerry. The rock group scored a number one hit with In the Summertime in 1970 and another with Feels Like I’m in Love.

Tulisa shared a sweet childhood photo of her snuggling up to her father and told fans she was ‘forever her father’s daughter’. The former X Factor judge wrote: “Love you pops, rest in peace. Forever my father’s daughter.”

Dappy, Tulisa’s N-Dubz bandmate and cousin, also shared news of Steve’s passing. He took to Instagram with a video of himself and his uncle alongside a white dove.

Tulisa commented on his post with a broken heart emoji and Dappy replied: “I’m so sorry T”. Tulisa’s I’m A Celeb pal Alan Halsall wrote: “I’m so sorry for your loss, Sending you all my love [heart emoji]”.

Plato played keyboard in Mungo Jerry, who were formed in 1970, and Dappy’s dad Byron was on keyboard. The group bagged nine charting singles in the UK, and their song IN the Summertime has been featured on the Ribena adverts.

Tulisa recently opened up about her relationship with dad Steve. She told Paul C Brunson on his We Need To Talk Podcast: “Me and my dad’s relationship has not been a conventional one.

“I would say me and my dad now we’re just more friends that kind of have an understanding of one another.” She also revealed her dad influenced her music career and was highly supportive of her in the early days.

During a chat on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast, she said: “My dad had a little studio in Dollis Hill and he used to bring me there sometimes when he was working.

“He put me on the mic at the age of five. I was singing Little Mermaid. I just knew there was nothing else I felt passionate about.”

Tulisa’s dad and mum Ann got together in 1984 but broke up when the singer was 10 years old. Tulisa has told of how she became her mum’s primary carer when Steve left them.

Ann was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2007, a combination of bipolar and schizophrenia. She had suffered a mental breakdown two years before she met Steve.
