Bob Elmore, the actor and stuntman who played The Executioner in 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, has died, with tributes pouring in for the star
Bob Elmore, the renowned stuntman and actor, has died aged 65. His Texas Chainsaw Massacre co-star Caroline Williams broke the news on Instagram on June 29, simply stating: “My dear Bob Elmore has passed…” The celebrated performer had portrayed The Executioner in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, having previously worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl.
However, he gained notoriety for his portrayal of the iconic horror character Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.
The cause of death remains undisclosed, but it appears that the star had been lining up work into the coming year. The Horror Realm Convention confirmed his booking for 2026, posting on Facebook: “Awful news coming out that Bob Elmore has passed away. We were fortunate to have him as a guest at Horror Realm a few years back. He was actually booked for 2026 but we have not announced any guests yet. We are sorry we won’t have a chance to be with him one more time. Our condolences to Bobs family. RIP Bob.”
As the news spread, tributes poured in from fans on social media. One fan wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely gutted. An honour and privilege to meet him only a few months ago here in the UK, what a gentleman, a giant of a man and the most epic white beard. My favourite Bubba rest easy sir.”
Another added: “I’m literally at work crying right now after hearing this. Bob was the man,” reports the Express.
A third fan expressed their sorrow: “This is so sad. I hope he had a peaceful passing after impacting so many people in a positive way.”
A fourth shared: “Very sorry to hear this. Bob was a great person, and I used to have laugh with him all the time at conventions. He will be missed.”
Another devastated follower confessed: “This absolutely heartbreaking – I did NOT expect to hear the news of this today, this is such a painful experience. I pray his soul rests forever in peace. I’m so sorry.”
Meanwhile, another admirer mourned: “No!! Not Bob!! I feel like I’ve lost a family member. I’m gonna celebrate his life the best way I know… I’m gonna watch TCM2 tonight.”
Bob’s initial foray into the industry was as part of the Wild West Stunt Show at Knott’s Berry Farm in California, before honing his skills under the tutelage of stunt legend Gene LeBell at Los Angeles City College.
In addition to his contributions to two Pirates of the Caribbean films, he also graced the screen in Casino, The Usual Suspects, Being John Malkovich, City of Angels, Uncle Buck, and Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment. His stunt work extended to horror cult classics The Monster Squad and Dr. Giggles.
However, it was his portrayal of Leatherface that earned him a legion of fans and invitations to conventions globally. Reflecting on the iconic role in a 2016 interview for Scream Factory’s Blu-ray release, he said: “Just to be recognised for working in this little, itty bitty movie that brought pleasure to so many people – and there’s some people that really, really, really enjoyed it.”
He confessed his bewilderment at the film’s cult status, saying: “I don’t understand. I don’t have that passion for that kind of movie, but there’s a lot. And it’s worldwide, it’s not here in the United States. People in Germany love Texas Chainsaw Part 2. They just love it, and they’re crazy about it. That’s what is so unique about it, and to be associated with that is great. Not too many people can say that.”
