Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has been slammed by PETA after she shared a picture of herself swimming with a dolphin while on holiday in the Dominican Republic
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has faced backlash from PETA after sharing a photo of herself swimming with a dolphin on holiday.
The 23 -year-old actress, known for her role as Lauren Bolton on the ITV soap, recently posted updates from her sunny getaway in the Dominican Republic.
One picture showed Cait beaming with joy as she appeared to ride a dolphin in the ocean, taken at Dolphin Island Park in Punta Cana. She captioned it: “Such a surreal experience. Pictures pending …. Swim with dolphins in the wild.”
Another photo showed her kissing a dolphin. However, what she intended as a heartwarming post sparked criticism from animal rights charity PETA. They issued a statement saying: “PETA is rushing Cait a copy of The Cove, as she simply can’t be aware that dolphins exploited for these cute-seeming encounters are often violently torn away from their families and ocean homes and have almost no semblance of a real life.
“Instead of exploring, raising their young, and swimming vast distances, captive dolphins are forced to spend decades performing confusing tricks in cramped tanks while being fondled by strangers,” reports the Mirror.
“We hope PETA’s facts will open her eyes to the dolphins’ plight and that she’ll take down any social media pictures promoting this cruel industry, which imprisons wild animals for profit.”
Cait’s representatives have been contacted by The Mirror for comment. This development comes after she made her new romance public on Instagram several weeks ago.
The actress had teased her fans for weeks about her new partner, revealing that her “boyfriend” had gifted her a Jellycat toy. Then, towards the end of June, she decided to take her relationship to the next level by sharing a photo of silver ’23’ balloons and a glimpse of her boyfriend.
Cait captioned the post: “A day celebrating you,” accompanied by a white love heart emoji. In an earlier story post, she shared a collage of images featuring herself and her partner, with the message: “Happy birthday to my man.”
She continued: “Thank you for blessing my life.”
The photos depicted the pair posing for a selfie, a glamorous joint photo, and another of them holding hands. However, Cait still hasn’t revealed her partner’s name.
In a previous conversation with The Mirror, Cait addressed the challenges that come with fame, saying: “It’s taken me a long time to have thick skin, it’s not an overnight process.”
She added: “We are normal people outside of filming, but everyone sees the characters as actual people. That can be really hard, especially with Lauren, who is a complex character.”
