Former musician Peter Deary has revealed his late-night fart stunk so badly that Noel Gallagher was inspired to write the band’s iconic Digsy’s Dinner from Definitely Maybe
The man who inspired the Oasis song Digsy’s Dinner said it was the result of a late-night fart during a jam session with the Gallaghers.
Peter Deary, a former musician who was pals with the brothers in their early days, said his toot “f***ing stunk”.
He told them, “Guess what I had for my tea? It was lasagne”.
Peter, who was known by his nickname ‘Digsy’, said: “Noel had Digsy’s Dinner written but he didn’t have a title for it.
“It came from a fart, out of my a**e.”
The 63-year-old Scouser said the quirky track made him famous in his home city.
He beamed: “Before they split up, I was the most popular fella in Liverpool.
“Now my granddaughter, she’s 13 saying, ‘Grandad, I’ve told my mates that you’re Digsy, so I’m dead popular’.”
The song, on their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe, is about inviting someone over for tea, with the suggestions of a lasagne on offer.
Peter explained: “It was through my cousins I met Liam and Noel.
“One night we were stoned and we were all having a jam. It was about 2am and I farted and it f***ing stunk. Noel was on the drums.
“And I said, ‘Guess what I had for my tea? It was lasagne’. Noel had Digsy’s Dinner written but he didn’t have a title for it.
“It came from a fart, out of my a**e. And so it should, because it’s a f***ing s**t tune anyway.
“The next I heard was Noel saying ‘what were you saying last night about the lasagne?’.
“F***ed if I know. So he called it Digsy’s Dinner.”
Peter also admitted he isn’t even a fan of the Italian meat and pasta dish.
He added: “Never eat a food you can’t spell. Of course I don’t like lasagne.
“Are you f***ing having a laugh? It’s a s**t tune anyway.”
