Analysts say band’s twin Cardiff concerts sparked 56% rise in drink sales with fans supping 811,000 pints in two days
Oasis’s comeback gigs triggered an astonishing booze bender that pumped £5m into a city’s ailing economy in just 48 hours.
Retail analysts at the The Oxford Partnership said the band’s twin concerts in Cardiff sparked a 56% rise in drink sales. Fans supped 811,000 pints in the Welsh capital in two days – the equivalent of every pub or bar in the city selling 1,477 pints.
Boozers struggled across the rest of the UK with a 3.5% month-on-month sales fall due to ‘cost-of-living pressures’ and ‘reined in discretionary spending’ – despite soaring summer temperatures. But the Oasis factor saw Cardiff buck the trend.
A spokesman for the analyst said: “While national momentum cooled Cardiff stood out. “Back-to-back Oasis concerts delivered a significant uplift for local trade with average city centre venues selling 1,477 pints over the two days totalling 811,000 pints across the city – representing a 56% uplift on the previous weekend.”
The partnership’s chief executive officer Alison Jordan said the band’s gigs had had a similar impact on hospitality to last year’s Euro 24 football tournament.
She said: “The Euros delivered huge sales for the sector last year but it’s not just sport that packs a punch.
“Now Cardiff’s felt its own ‘Supersonic Surge’.
“Oasis didn’t just bring the music – they delivered a full cultural moment that lit up the city and sent tills ringing.
“From packed pubs to soaring pint sales, it’s a powerful reminder that major cultural events fuel hospitality in a big way, driving real economic impact and unforgettable nights out.”
Analysts said sales of cider have soared 7.6% in the past 12 weeks along with world and premium lagers which were up by 6.7% and 5.8% respectively.
Standard larger and craft beer sales were down.
Alison said: “Operators are working hard to adapt to these pressures and shifting behaviours.
“This month’s snapshot shows both the challenges and the real opportunities that lie in driving quality experiences and supporting events that bring people together.”
The Oasis Live ‘25 Tour kicked off with two concerts at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 4 and 5.
The band – which split in 2009 after a bust up between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher – is playing 41 gigs around the world from July 4 to November 23 and is currently midway through a five-concert run at Heaton Park in its home city of Manchester.
