Love Island USA star Nic Vansteenberghe has opened up about his hilarious “mamacita” conversation with co-star Huda Mustafa
Love Island USA sensation Nic Vansteenberghe has spilled the beans on his now-famous “mamacita” exchange with co-star Huda Mustafa. The reality TV heartthrob became an internet sensation following his quirky retort to Huda’s admission that she’s a mum, with the soundbite sparking a TikTok craze.
During a one-on-one, Huda divulged: “I’m a mommy,” prompting Nic to query: “Mommy?” As Huda reiterated: “I’m a mom”, Nic blurted out: “Mamacita!”
The snippet took off on social media, inspiring fans and even celebrities like Jennifer Lopez to mimic the amusing dialogue. But Nic didn’t leave it at that, he further asked: “A mom of what?
“A dog?” Huda had to specify: “I have a daughter”, leading to Nic’s bewildered follow-up: “Like in real life?” Yes, like a human child”, confirmed Huda.
Now, the ‘Love Island USA’ finalist has confessed his own bafflement over the “mamacita” remark, reports the Mirror US.
Chatting with E! News, he admitted: “I get very confused about how my brain works.
“Sometimes, I confuse myself.” He went on to describe his astonishment at the clip’s viral fame: “I’m trying to remember what conversation that was.
“And then I saw the video, and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah.’ I mean, I thought I was valid.” Yet his current flame Olandria Carthen, who joined him for the E! interview, didn’t hesitate to challenge Nic’s peculiar line of questioning.
Olandria couldn’t help but tease: “She’s telling you she’s a mommy, and a dog comes to mind? Mamacita comes to mind?” to which Nic retorted: “Well, if it was a dog, then I would have been right.”
The duo remains a solid item after securing the runner-up spot on the Peacock series.
They reached the finale alongside couples Iris Kendall and Jose (Pepe) Garcia-Gonzalez, Huda and Chris Seeley, as well as Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales.
Amaya and Bryan, whose relationship flourished towards the end of the season, emerged victorious, opting to share the $100,000 prize money.
Huda and Chris, despite experiencing relationship troubles in the competition’s final days, managed to clinch third place.
