Cat Deeley was left on the verge of tears as she was told her ‘biological age’ live on air by a doctor, with her co-host Ben Shephard also finding out the results of his own test
Cat Deeley was left teetering on the brink of tears after a “nightmare” medical test revealed her “biological” age live on This Morning.
The beloved presenter, who was wrapping up her final show before a summer hiatus alongside co-host Ben Shephard, was intrigued by the concept of reducing one’s age to better comprehend health and lifespan.
Dr Alka Patel, 53, enlightened the duo about how she identifies as a sprightly 20-year-old in biological terms, explaining that while birthdays merely mark “chronological age”, “biological age” is more concerned with cellular health and essentially reflects an individual’s “inner age”.
Dubbing the approach “younger ageing”, Dr Patel clarified that it directly relates to overall health and lifespan. Both Ben, 50, and Cat, 48, had taken the blood test – which assesses their general health and wellbeing to assign them a new age.
The former model was visibly emotional as she awaited her results, expressing uncertainty about what the test might reveal.
Confessing the ordeal the test initially posed, she shared: “It was a nightmare for me, doctors only had to attempt it twice. I was crying. I’m a terrible sleeper, but I’m very healthy, I eat well and I drink loads of water, and I do yoga. I could be like Gary Oldman in Dracula!”, reports the Mirror.
As the TV stars observed their biological ages being calculated, Ben couldn’t help but exclaim: “She’s still going, I want a recount,” and when the numbers finally settled, Cat was on the verge of tears as it was revealed her biological age is 33, a whole 15 years younger than her actual age.
Overwhelmed by the results, especially considering her lack of sleep, she admitted: “I might cry, I might actually cry. I don’t know how I’ve done it because I certainly don’t sleep and that is one of the most important factors!”.
Meanwhile, Ben felt slightly let down that his biological age was only four years younger, despite being very conscious of his health and wellbeing. The doctor advised him to “be more Goldilocks”, which drew a chuckle from his co-host who quipped that he’d need a wig and a bowl of porridge for that.
Nonetheless, the Tipping Point presenter confessed that his focus on fitness is primarily for his mental health, stating: “For me, the health and wellness is much more important for me mentally rather than how I feel with the physical side of things.”
Ben, who celebrated his 50th birthday in December 2024, had boldly posed topless for a magazine cover to commemorate the milestone. However, during a recent chat on ITV’s Lorraine, he updated fans on his health, acknowledging that his body isn’t quite what it used to be.
The telly star was visibly red-faced as he joined the Scottish host, who didn’t hesitate to flaunt his Men’s Health cover on screens for everyone to see. The chat quickly moved on to what it meant for Ben to hit the front page of Men’s Health for the second time in his career.
“You look fantastic but I know you work so hard to maintain your health and fitness,” Lorraine gushed, as Ben conceded that although he’s fighting fit, reaching middle age has made him more aware of the need for increased effort.
Discussing his current state of health, Ben said: “I’m very grateful to still be able to still be able to be fit and health and I know I’ve got various issues and my body’s not quite what it used to be.”
He chose not to elaborate on the particular issues he’s facing.
