Sir Tom Jones has had to cancel a gig just hours before he was due on stage.

The Welsh singing legend, 85, has dazzled fans for six decades and proved age is just a number. However, he’s suffered a few health problems, including a double hip replacement – the first in 2017 and the second in 2022.

The Voice coach was due on stage in Bremen, Germany on Tuesday (July 22) but has sadly had to cancel the show after contracting an infection. The singer has revealed he’s postponing the show as he needs “treatment and rest”.

In a statement, he said: “Hello to all the fans in Bremen. Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I’ve contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest.

“I know this is really disappointing and will cause inconvenience to you all, and I’m very sorry about that. But the show will now go ahead on Monday 28th July, so I look forward to seeing you then. All tickets will remain valid for the re-scheduled date.

Thanking fans, he added: “Until then, thank you for your understanding. Love, Tom.”

Fans were gutted but rushed to send their support to the music icon. One wrote on X: “Take care of yourself get well soon,” and another commented: “Get well very soon Sir Tom xx.”

Sir Tom is touring Europe and his next concert is scheduled for Saturday (July 26) in Dundee before returning to Bremen on July 28. He’s got three dates in the UK before he jets off to Spain.

He previously discussed how lucky he feels to be able to perform at his age. He told The Mirror: “Well, thank God my voice is still working. I am 83 years old. I mean I can’t believe it, but it is true.

“When I am singing I am like, ‘How the hell is this coming out of me?’ Honestly. If the voice was not there I am sure I would be going ‘Urgh, I don’t want to do so many shows’ but I love it as the voice is still working!”

After his two hip surgeries, Sir Tom told fans: “Papa has two new hips now! For all those concerned and sent in well wishes, I am pleased to report my recent surgery went very well, I’m following orders and doing my physio, so happy to say I will be back soon!”

He’d previously delayed the surgeries because of his concerts. The singer said at the ITV Entertainment Autumn Showcase: “I’ve got to have a new hip.

“I had [my left hip] done five years ago and it worked great, so now [my right hip’s] starting to go wear and tear! So, at the moment, I’m bone on bone!”.

“That’s what the fella [doctor] told me. But I’ve got a tour to do in America first, I can’t go in now. He said: ‘Well, you should! ‘ I said, ‘I can’t, I’ve got a show to do! ‘”.
