One of the final acts in the life of Ozzy Osbourne was to open up about the affair that nearly ended his marriage to Sharon. The Black Sabbath legend, 76, wanted to “tell the world his version” following his fling with hairdresser Michelle Pugh.

It led devastated Sharon, 72, to an overdose. She walked out on the hellraiser, leaving him at “rock bottom”, before forgiving his cheating and rebuilding their marriage.

The emotional low point will feature in Ozzy’s new memoir Last Rites, due out in October, it was confirmed shortly before the singer’s death early today. He will point to his sex addiction issues as a key reason for cheating in 2016. The book will cover his marital strife, ongoing battle with sobriety, his devastation over his Parkinson’s diagnosis, as well as the health struggles he’s faced since he fell at home in 2019.

A friend said: “You are going to get the whole f***ing lot – is how Ozzy has described it. He has opened up on the insane things that have happened in the last 17 years to him and his family.

“He sat with a writer to address the good, bad, the ugly and downright despicable – and that will be about what went down with Michelle and how Sharon left him. That time was a really pivotal moment because had he not won Sharon back then perhaps that could have spelled the end for his career and efforts to stay sober, because without Sharon as his rock we all fear the worst. He wants to tell the world his version of all that now that the dust has settled.”

The pal added: “He did therapy and the utmost to prove he would not stray and was committed to Sharon – she took him back and it really got his mind focused on working again. Obviously that came off the rails with his Parkinson’s and that f**ing horrible fall which left him really unable to play a full concert again.”

The book is said to go “all the way” right up until his recent – and final – appearance on stage with Sabbath. The source said: “The stories he has to tell are incredible and his own emotional take on everything is going to be gripping.

“The man has so many layers to him and at the centre of it is a deeply complicated human being doing his best to battle his demons all while trying to be the best father and hubby and loving being a granddad.”

In a statement about the book, Ozzy said: “People say to me, if you could do it all again, knowing what you know now, would you change anything? I’m like, f*** no. If I’d been clean and sober, I wouldn’t be Ozzy. If I’d done normal, sensible things, I wouldn’t be Ozzy.”

His publisher Hachette Books has described it as the “shocking, bitterly hilarious, never-before-told story of Osbourne’s descent into hell”, which will cover his “turbulent marriage”.

The company said it will feature his encounters with fellow hellraisers including Slash, Bon Scott, John Bonham and Keith Moon too.

It’s estimated the star, who played five tracks at the Back To The Beginning farewell show in Villa Park earlier this month, earned £3m for the deal. It will be released on October 7.
