Nickelodeon child star found living on streets as distressing video sparks concern

A former child star from a popular children’s TV show has sparked concern among fans after a distressing video of him surfaced online, showing him homeless on the streets

Former Nickelodeon child star Tylor Chase left fans deeply worried after a viral TikTok clip emerged showing him rough sleeping on the streets of Riverside, California. Chase, who played Martin Qwerly on the much-loved children’s programme Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, looked troubled in the distressing social media footage.

The clip, which has racked up thousands of views online, shows the former actor being asked if he starred on the Disney Channel, to which he replied “Nickelodeon”. When asked what show he was on, he added: “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.” The video prompted a wave of shock from viewers who fondly recalled watching the hit Nickelodeon series. Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide aired from 2004 to 2007 and was created by Scott Fellows.

The programme followed the escapades of three secondary school pupils, boasting a cast that featured Devon Werkheiser, Daniel Curtis Lee, and Lindsey Shaw.

Social media users flocked to express their heartbreak in response. Across the comments section, countless viewers ignited conversations about the toll of childhood stardom, particularly when combined with mental health struggles and addiction issues.

One viewer wrote: “This made me so sad.” Another shocked fan observed: “Really sad, he was trying to get off the camera. Hope he finds his way back up again.”

A third person declared: “Childhood fame ruins >90% of these kids, the other 10% end up addicts (just famous ones).”

A fourth added: “The Hollywood industry is sick.” Someone else remarked: “Society failed him…his parents failed him. Sad to see.”

While countless fans still cling to the hope that the footage could prompt people to lend him a hand, others have voiced worries about whether the viral video ought to have been filmed at all. “You knew who he was. This breaks my heart… God, please watch over him and keep him safe,” one viewer remarked.

Another person added: “There’s no need to have a camera in his face, asking him dumb questions. You knew who he was.”

A third individual echoed these feelings, saying: “Why record him in such a manner? He looked uncomfortable. This could have all been happening off-camera.”

After the video began doing the rounds, a GoFundMe page was set up to help Chase, rapidly raising more than $1,200.

However, the fundraising drive was later shut down by his mum, who explained that her son struggles with bipolar disorder and has been grappling with ongoing money troubles.

Following his time on Ned’s Declassified, Taylor landed a minor part as an unnamed character in a 2007 episode of the hit comedy series Everybody Hates Chris.
